When the black ink cartridge runs out of ink I replace it with a new one and it won't print. I repeat the process and it still won't print. I've used alcohol swabs to clean the print area and it still won't print. Please advise. Thanks.
Write to Lexmark - you won't get any joy, but their reply might be interesting. I suspect that Lexmark builds a chip into their cartridges preventing it being refilled. When replying to me they did not admit this, but did not deny it, simply stating that their cartridges were designed for single use only. When I said that, apart from the cost, I wanted to minimise my impact on the environment by refilling cartridges, they pointed out their proud association with Planet Ark. I suspect that Planet Ark is happy to be an apologist for corporate vandals, and I seriously question their 'green' credentials. Order your next cartridges from Europe where the printer companies are not allowed to chip their products.
If you have thoroughly cleaned down in print cartidge area, and printhead, with no ink coming away, remove cartridge. Repeat manual clean, use a baby wipe and wipe gold head that ink comes out of as well (if your cartridge has this. Replace. Reset ink levels in main profile page of printer interafce. Try again. If no go, try turning printer off, unplugging, replugging after a while, turning on. Retry print job. Make sure no print jobs are queued up by cancellin all jobs before you try and print again. If nothing else works i would buy a new cartridge and hope you have receipt as it may be a dud. This can happen. I have had a few over the years.
you are most welcome Unoroby. Most cartridges can cause some issues at some time, but not usually major. Keep a list of techniques next to the priter to remind you what to do when little things go wrong. I refil my ink cartridges myself and still occasionally get air bubbles denying uniform printing until you blow in it to clear it, but when you are on the spot it is hard to remember what to do. I have a llittle checklist myself! Good luck in future. You save heaps by refilling yourself.

You could try removing and reinstalling both carts, not just the black.
