Will not burn a CD

Have you checked which CDR media the device can use.
This may be as simple as using a CD-R rather than a CD+R or vice versa,
Also check if you may be burning to a CDRW or CDR.

Usb device not reconised

This message is usually shown when the flash drive is burnt. Try to see if it presents the same message in different computers. if it does, unfortunately it is damaged beyond repair.

If it is recognized as a drive, but it is asked to format the flash drive, try formatting it and see if you can copy and delete files from it. If you cannot, it is really burnt.

Hope you may find this information helpful!

When i put my usb stick in my computer, the usb stick lights up with a solid light but the computer doenst show its pluged in. how do i get my files off the usb stick?

click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you could see a yellow question / exclamation mark? ! or a red X

you will need to update/reinstall drivers

right click to reinstall drivers

if you can see your usb drive but its not working

ports(com&lpt)right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems for a computer and its parts

hope this helps you

I have a new pc and the simple tech external hard drive will not show up even though the red and blue lights come on.

click start > right click on computer(or my computer) and click manage click on disk management and see if the 160gb drive is shown, if it is right click on it and click mark partition as active , if windows does not find a new disk then right click on the drive again and click change drive letter and paths. Choose a drive letter and click ok and your drive should now appear in windows. If it isnt showing in disk management then check that the drive is not beeping ,if it is then it is receiving insufficient power from the usb port try removing other usb devices to see if it will function correctly, once you remove the other usb devices you will need to unplug and reinsert the usb lead of the hard drive

My Western Design 120G external hard drive is my back up source. I've had it for a long time and i keep it in its original box when not in use. I just tried to do another back up and when i plug it in,...

the red light probably suggests a problem, habe you recently had any other type of removable or network storage attached, mapped network drives or anyhting like that?

you say the computer recognises it was plugged in, i presume from the noise the computer makes? i would first be checking the device manager to see if there are no problems (right click my computer - properties - hardware tab - device manager), look for any yellow exclamation marks or question marks..

secondly i would make sure it hasnt tried to assign the same drive letter to the external as something else plugged into the machine or something silly like that, check the disk manager..

(right click my computer - manage - on the left click disk management)

look in the list at the bottom for the drive, even if it isnt accessible in my computer, if the computer recognises it as any type of disk at all, it will show it here.. if it does, look at the drive letter, and if it has the same as something else, simply change it (right click the external - change drive letter and paths) remove the current letter - follow the same process again and give a new one that is unused

if there is nothing under device manager, and no external in disk management when it is plugged in, then i dare say its probably had its day..

hope this helps

Laptop keeps turning off and DVD-CD-RW Rom won't work.

The turning off problem may be a memory problem, download and run a memory checker (memtest 1.7 or later) it may also be a virus problem
ensure your virus checker is up to date and run a full scan, these would be a first step to try and solve these issues.

good luck

the drive is ready to give up, when it cant read dvds or cd's and unable to eject because it cannot read tracks and commands it's time to buy a new one, they are very cheap and easy to fit yourself.

Installing a second internal hard drive

Windows may need recognise it through it's system, right click on my computer>manage, then a window will pop up. Look down the list on left for disk management; on the right bottom of window, you should see your drive there but it will need to be formatted. Highlight your disk, right click and select format. The drive should then show in my computer
