Hello! I recently got a "broken" Sony KV-27FS13 27" from a friend who couldn't figure out what was wrong with it (he says it was knocked over when he moved).
The TV turns on for about 3 seconds, and you can hear the screen power up, but before you get a picture the speakers squeal and the TV turns off. It isn't a switch problem because the same thing happens even if you hold down the power switch. I've exhausted most other trouble shooting techniques. Any suggestions?

Re: No picture and a "whistle"
If your friend is being honest, and why shouldnt he, and the set was knocked over, I'll bet there is now a small crack in the main board. Cracks in boards due to dropping or "knocking over" usually occur next to the flyback transformer or tuner. Cracks in boards are very easy to fix so if you do not have experience working inside TV's then allow a qualified tech to handle it for you.

Check its video output card [a card directly plugged on to the back of the picture tube] for any loose solder terminals. Re-solder all the suspected solder terminals there, by applying a little more solder to each points. A bad solder point can cause this type of problem.
I have had my Sony KV-32FV15 for about 2 years now and nothing has ever gone wrong(even going through several moves.) I recently moved again and when I plugged in the TV, you can hear the sound perfectly but the screen just stays black. You can not even hear the squeal that the TV makes when comming on. Is there anything that I should initially look at to troubleshoot. I cannot afford at this time the $250 fee to repair my TV. I look forward to your input and hopefully I can get this TV working again.
