Here is a solution I found when I was having problems and it worked like a gem..its a problem with two programs running a .dll file:

1. Open a command prompt by being Administrator (Right click on Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator)
2. CD to C:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar ( cd drive letter:\Program Files\Windows Sidebar )
3. Run these commands in this order:
1. regsvr32 -u sbdrop.dll
2. regsvr32 -u wlsrvc.dll
3. regsvr32 atl.dll
4. regsvr32 sbdrop.dll
5. regsvr32 wlsrvc.dll
Then start up the sidebar.
Good luck. If you have any questions let me know.

That's a memory error..it basically means two programs were trying to use the same memory space. Make sure all of your programs are closed..also since it is a memory error you can reboot and try it again and maybe the memroy space it free up..good luck.

Ok let me do some more research, I have Vista Ultimate also, so should have something in a few..

  • Anonymous Apr 02, 2009

Exactly what does the error say?

  • Anonymous Apr 02, 2009

Try this. First hit ctr-alt-del and choose task manager. In task manager click on Processes. See if you have a file name sidebar.exe. If not then right click on start and then explorer. Go to c:\program files\Windows Sidebar\ in this folder you will see sidebar.exe. Click on it to see if it will start up.

I found this in one of the Vista forums that matches your problem. Rather techie at some points but if it works I imagine it will be worth it. You may have to use the "chat' feature in Fixya if you get stuck so I or someone can walk you thru it...keep me updated and good luck.

really? dang..well sorry about that. Looks like I am out of bullets. Can't find any other information, and since we ran the sidebar.exe from its native folder, it looks like the program itself is corrupted. You can repost with a chat, which will bring a lot more experts to help, not to mean any of that will work either, but there will be more eyes on it. Only other recourse is to backup your data and re-install. Another way that is a long shot is to make a disc image or clone of your operating system with software such as Acronis. This will save all of your settings, but it may also brIng the problem with it, no gurantees on that one..sorry I couldn't help more good luck.

Click start, type SIDEBAR. In the menu, select the one for Windows Sidebar
Properties. At the top is an option to always start that you may need to
enable.

Or

Else:
You should have a spare copy of sidebar.exe in the Windows\winsxs folder. You'll need to search for Sidebar.exe to find it, as the folder names use GUIDs. Then copy it into Program Files\Windows Sidebar and see if that fixes things.

Or
If nothing works please try, running System Restore to roll back to a point before the problem started. Hopefully that'll sort it out.

    Error 1005

    1. This is a generic error that describes that phone is not able to find the PC. There can be many reason for this
    2. Try restarting PC Remote Server
    3. Make sure that battery saver mode is not turned-on as phone networking is stopped when battery is low.
    4. Try restarting your PC and restart PC Remote Server
    5. Do you have any firewall or anti malware installed on your PC? These softwares might be blocking the connection with PC Remote Server. During server setup, a rule/exception is added to Windows Firewall to enable incoming connection from Phone. If your security software is not querying Windows Firewall for exceptions, then you need to manually add a new exception to allow incoming TCP and UDP connections on local port 61314. Try connecting after stopping security software.
Please add the rules to allow incomming and outgoing connections for PC Remote Server at port 61314.

If it's rebooting when trying to boot into safe mode as well, have you tried "Last Known Good Configuration"? Press F8 like you do to go into Safe Mode, and choose this instead.
If this doesn't work, on the F8 menu, you can disable automatic restart. This will cause Windows to hang instead of automatically rebooting when it encounters an error. With any luck, it will display a STOP error for you. If you get this, comment with the error and I'll be happy to look that up for you.
If this helps, please give a positive rating.

My gadets slide bar has gone how do i get it back

    To open Sidebar

Open Windows Sidebar by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, clicking Accessories, and then clicking Windows Sidebar.
To keep Sidebar visible at all times, you must set it so that other windows won't cover it. The Sidebar width is a fixed size.

To keep windows from covering Sidebar

Because of the space Sidebar requires, this option works best if you're using a large or wide-screen monitor or multiple monitors.
    1.
Open Windows Sidebar properties by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Windows Sidebar Properties.
    2.
Select the Sidebar is always on top of other windows check box.
    3.
    Click OK.

Is the webcam USB? Try rebooting the computer with no other USB devices connected. If you're still having the problem try it through a separate mains powered hub. Webcams can often overload the USB ports on laptops.
