Need to replace blades on a 2009 cub cadet lxt1040 riding lawn mower

go to mtd cub cadet . com and they will have a schematic

sounds to me you have a broken deck belt

Make sure that the belt is still there to engage the blades

You'll need to look under the deck w/ the mower not running and see why the blades aren't turning. Most likely something is bent (maybe blade) and hitting something. The smoke is probably from the belt slipping and getting hot.

Probably spindles bad, or something wrapped around blades or belt

It appears to come with the chute assembly part # 631 04254

If the click you hear is the electric PTO engaging, then your deck belt is broken or off a pulley some where. Check the belt & then clarify if needed
