This message indicates that your waste ink pads are full and require replacing. Replacement is costly, messy and requires the printer to be taken completely apart. Most often the counter has "jumped" to the end of life number, this especially happens where 3rd party or refilled inks have been used. If you believe this to be the case and there is no sign of ink leakage and the pads look fairly clean then you can just reset the counter using special software called the SSC utility. See these sites:
http://www.ssclg.com/epsone.shtml
http://inkjetprinterhelp.us/epsonSSC.html
More information about this issue is available from the Epson web site, please read this link:

Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.

Our printer had been working fine until a couple days ago when we turned it on there was a message on the printer screen which said:Service required. Parts inside your printer need to be replace. See...

Simple answer on this is that the RX600 is one of the much older models where the pads were never really intended to be accessible for replacement. Service Centres may still be equipped to deal with them but you'll almost certainly be told it's not worth it and to buy a new printer.

A simpler answer is to redirect the waste tube into an external waste tank and reset the waste counter. The former is pretty simple thanks to the access hatch in the back of the printer, while the latter is something you can do using the SSC utility.
There are commercial kits like the Printer Potty if you want something solid and a bit more hand holding but it's also something you can DIY if you want.
There's a basic installation guide available here (same for the RX620 as RX600).
For the SSC utility the guide on inkjetprinterhelp.us is very useful but if you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7 you'll need to use compatibility mode this screencast will cover everything.
Hope that helps...

We're getting this Service Required message - Parts inside your printer are near the end of their service life. See your printer documentation. What part are we needing to replace?

the parts most likely to be replaced with such a message are the waste ink pads. (sponge pads that collect the ink that is used for print head cleanings). these pads are difficult to reach inside the printer (full dissassembly is necessary) and doing so is a VERY dirty job. i suggest contacting a repair center near you.

Epson RX600 service required. How can i reset the printer and get rid of the error message?

I just had this same error message pop up on my RX600 yesterday. There is a utility that you can d/l from the Epson website to reset the counter at the link below.

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/InkPadsForm.jsp

The reason the service message pops up is that it is telling you that the waste ink pads are near the end of their service life and probably saturated with ink. You should still clean the waste ink pads or ink will eventually run out the bottom of your printer and create a big mess. If you do a Google search for something like "rx600 waste ink pads" there are some how-to discussions on doing this yourself. I'm going to clean mine later today.

They say it's not hard to do and you don't have to disassemble your printer, just use a toothpick or modified paperclip to remove the pads after you park the cartridges in their "replace ink cartridge" position and unplug the printer. A more detailed procedure can be found with the Google search.

Service required parts inside your printer need to be replaced

Try this manual reset.

Press all the following buttons at the same time: POWER+B&W+COLOR,
then you will see a message on your printer screen, TURN OFF printer.

NOTE: You can use your printer again after being reset but the part inside your printer that need to be replaced should be replaced, that is the waste ink pad. It is necessary to replace that part to prevent flooding of waste ink inside your printer.

Clearing message after "replace photoconductor kit" message came on

To reset the photoconductor page count:
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. While the printer is off, press and hold the Select (pattlnk_1262005_1956-enus20772_selectbuttonicon_t64x_en_us.gif) and Return (pattlnk_1262005_1950-enus21096_returnbuttonicon_e340e342_en_us.gif) buttons on the operator panel.

    pattlnk_1262005_208-enus21096_oppanelbuttons1_e340e342_en_us.gif

  3. While keeping both buttons held down, turn the printer back on. Keep holding down both buttons until the printer screen displays Performing Self Test or CONFIG MENU.
  4. Release the buttons when you see either of these messages.
  5. If Reset PC Cnt does not then appear on the screen, press the left or right menu button until it does.

    pattlnk_1262005_2017-enus21096_oppanelbuttons2_e340e342_en_us.gif
  6. Press the Select button once. The message Resetting PC Cnt Value should briefly appear on the screen, indicating that the photoconductor page count has been reset.
  7. When the display shows CONFIG MENU again, power off the printer.
  8. Wait five or more seconds and then power the printer back on. NOTE: Do not hold any buttons down when powering on the printer during this step.

The photoconductor page count should now be reset. At this point, it is recommended that you print a menu settings page to confirm this. Do the following:
    1. With the printer at the Ready status, press the left or right Menu button until UTILITIES MENU appears on the screen.
    2. With UTILITIES MENU on the screen, press the Select button once. A new menu should appear.
    3. If Print Menus is not displayed on the second line of the screen, press the left or right menu button until Print Menus appears.
    4. Press the Select button once. The message Printing Menu Settings should appear on the screen and the printer will print out one to three pages of printer settings.
    5. Look for a heading labeled Cartridge Information on one of the menu settings pages.
    6. Under Cartridge Information, look for the word Photoconductor. Confirm that the level of the photoconductor says OK or is close to 100%.
    7. If the photoconductor is still reading low, try printing 10 - 20 more pages.
    8. Print the menu settings page(s) once more. Confirm that the photoconductor level is now at OK or close to 100%.
    9. If the photoconductor continues to give a low reading, repeat this entire procedure again from the beginning to reset the counter once more.
    10. If the photoconductor reading is still low after two attempts to reset the counter, the printer may require service.

Service required

I seem to have fixed my own question. Thanks to the "silly girl" pressing buttons. On the Epson Stylus Photo RX600 try pressing the stop button, color button, B&W button and the On button all at the same time. It starts up without that fatal red indicator with a message saying the ink tray has been emptied. Press the OK button and things are back to normal, I hope!
