Idle problems I have a yamaha 650 V-Star Custom. I am having trouble setting my idle above 1000rpms. The bike cuts off. The only thing I can do to keep it from cutting off is to keep the choke lever pulled out about 1/4 of the way. I have turned the idle know to the right as far as I could. I have changed my spark plugs, my oil, oil filter and air filter. With no sucess. Any ideas besides taking my carborators off?

Had my 2005 V-Star 650 Classic sit outside over the winter under a cover. Had problems starting and added some dry gas and conditioner. Bike started but push choke 1/2 way in and it stalls due to low idle. Any suggestions before I have to bring it in the shop?

If the bike has been sitting over the winter or a few monts , the carburator is probably varnished up. Need to take it to a shop and get it cleaned and tuned. I usually take my carb off my dirt bike after it sits all winter and clean all the needle valves and then tune it. Good luck

You should have a idle adjustment knob under the gas tank, left side.

Hmmm... this doesn't sound like a problem that belongs here... By "cuts off" do you mean stop running, or misfire? Carb. problems often are the result of the bike having set for many months or a year or two with old gas, which can result in a varnishing like of the fuel in the carburetors, which can clogg small passage ways, and subsequent no-idle, or other poor fuel delivery. Problems such as this require repair by knowledgeable mechanics. Other things which can upset correct fuel/air mixture are modifications such different exhaust system, air cleaner change, camshaft- any mod of these can require some retuning.

Bike backfires and at an idle it shoots out a blue flame

Purchase a EFI controller. I suggest a Fi2000R. It is easy to hook up and fairly easy to set by the instructions.

I need the paint codes for my 2006 V star 650 custom

go to www.colorrite.com and look up your exact motorcycle. Sounds like you have a midnight V star? The gloss black is called Raven and the matte finish i'm unsure of. i work for a Yamaha dealer and we always recommend Color Rite. Good luck.

How to lower the idle on a 2002 yamaha 650 v-star classic?

under the left side of the gas tank you will see i black knob/screw at the end of what looks like a hose. the knob faces the rear of bike. that adjusts the idle. its real easy to find and the only adjustment you can make to the carbs.

Electrical trouble

If all the fuses turn out good especially the main fuse then you might want to check your starter solenoid. Try jumping the two leads on the solenoid if the bike starts then most likely the solenoid is bad. If it doesn't start then it could be two other things. 1- your Ignitions might be shoot. tell tail signs. Bike cutting out during the ride and bike loses power when you hit the starter button but power returns when you turn the key off then back on. 2- The Rectifier might be gone. The rectifier will cause many different problem that might have you chasing carb problems, to the bike won't start at all with no cranking
