No scan with Microtek Artixscan 120 tf

Good morning, I have a problem with my Microtek, used with the firewire connection. I obtain a normal prescan with the original Microtek software and with Silverfast AI, but the result of the scan is a black (black not dark) image ! The scanner is again in warranty, but before to dispatch it in Germany, I want to be sure that it's defective ! I've tried with two different PC (desktop and lap-top computer, Windows 2000 and Windows XP) but the results are the same. All the software are upgraded to the last version ! Please I need your help.     Good morning and thank you for your kindness. I've uninstalled all the scanner softwares, cleaned and defragmented the system, and installed only the original Microtek software. I've obtain the same bad results with the 35 mm holder, but with the medium format holder it's all ok I obtain good prescan and scan results. I would like to try with Silverfast AI, but I'm not sure that install it it's a good idea (in the past when I've used it the results are good immediately after the installation but with the time there is "something" that became "dirt" and begin the problems).
    I to go crazy to understand why the results are like this, I don't know if the problem is the scanner when work with the 35 mm holder or only the 35 film holder. I've ordered the glass film holder to have better results (plain film) with the medium format film, I'm waiting it to make tests. I need again your help and remarks.

When you say -'normal' prescan you do mean you get an image? If this is so I would remove all software. Do a disc clean Reboot the computer Re install the original supplied software-ignore for the time being any down loaded upgrade, Come back tell me what you have

    I dont know the particular scanner of course and the Microtek site may be able to help here
    If the results are poor with a film holder- is it possible that it is in the incorrect position on the bed, or you are not slectcting an appropriate setting.
    Is Silverfast part of the Microtek package or a third party item?

3840 is an old scanner and the latest driver for it in microtek website is for xp. but you can try using the win7 64-bit driver of ArtixScan DI 1210 which you can download here:

after downloading, DON'T INSTALL it. put it in a folder, then using your WINRAR, extract it (right-click then click Extract Here). Then MANUALLY UPDATE your driver by browsing to your folder when windows detect your printer or click add printer in Devices and Printers in Control Panel.

Microtek only supply drivers up to XP for this scanner.

Scanner software can't find the scanner anymore

From the menu you have to take the source first
Sources could be scanner, camera etc.
Make sure you have the scanner selected before you try to scan

Code error -180

Check your USB cable.  I was getting the exact same error and I found out I was using an older USB 1.0 spec cable.  When I switched to a USB 2 cable it began working fine.

Error 600

I bought the pro version of the 8700, used it about once a month--very light use. When it died, I found that Microtek won't even sell parts! I agree, NEVER buy another Microtek product! This thing cost me over a $1000 and after one year, NO support! Any company but Microtek.

No image obtained on preview scanning or actual scanning

First thing to do is un install and reinstall the software. Then consider - what other software could be running the could conflict[A graphics program for example]is to try another software for scanning if available. The other thing to consider is the age of the scanner- if it is from the DOS era-95/8/ME- then it will like as not not run- there is a firmware problem. Scanners have a controller chip - DOS era devices are looking for DOS commands - and they are getting NTFS commands- various makers like Microtek tried driver fudges- but they did not work. It has to be a NTFS scanner for NTFS commands.
