Question about IBM ThinkPad R50e Notebook

My R50e IBM notebook's DVDROM and trackball don't work

Hi to all, what can I do? It also ruined the HD and I had it replaced. I had to go to the control panel and disable the trackball mouse because it would just dance around the screen without me being able to control it, but now I'm using an external usb mouse and can't use the DVDROM what can I do? is this a known problem? thanks

I'm so glad someone answered me so thank you bassclef.
especially since you are ranked as a master, I did system restore and I also reloaded the BIOS and all i should have written that also. I think it's a Motherboard problem because the DVDROM and the mouse together don't work, but I don't want to buy a motherboard today because it costs too much comparisent to new motherboards and a new computer will be cheaper and i'm not sure that that's the problem anyways so if there's no solution i think i'll just giveup and live with it, heh:)

- reload the laptop to factory (Acces Thinkpad button) or use system restore to go back a few days in time to before you installed it.

I have a IBM thinkpad R50e for the last 6 years. It is not reading any CD or DVD, but says the device is working properly. Pl. help me.

I think it has failed.
Go to Control Panel...System... Device Manager... and locate CD or DVD Roms and UNINSTALL it. Then Reboot and it will automatically locate the CD / DVD Rom. You will have to acknowledge several screens wit naext and tes ect.

If it does not work, it's really easy to buy and replace.

Hard drive problem

I've been wrestling with tw IBM's with similar issues for the last three days, one of which wouldn't recognize the hard drive or the CD drive. I'm going to suggest flashing the bios, this worked on the ones I have. Here's a link to the bios download. I recommend that you use the one for creating a diskette. Try this and let me know.
