Keyboard is easy - just turn computer over, unscrew the screws that connect the keyboard to the laptop and then see if there are any screws on the keyboard itself that must be unscrewed. Pry the keyboard off with a small flathead screwdriver, unplug the ribbon and replace with new keyboard by re connecting the ribbon and then snapping it into place and of course replacing whatever screws you took out.
Hard drive - you must first locate whereever it is on the bottom of the notebook, unscrew those screws, take it out and reconnect new one.
REMEMBER to take out battery during this whole procedure and put a cloth over the LCD screen so you wont scratch it up.

The DVD ROM problem lies in the REGISTRY. I have the registry entries. I can email it to you. I have the same lappy running 7. It aint supported but that mean it don't work! :)
i had the same problem. apart from keyboard and mousepad, all usb weren't working at all... except the pcmcia slot. so i bought a pcmcia usb card and plugged in the usb mouse and keyboard in those slots. it works! at least on my aspire 5100
this is your system board fault
this is due to southbridge (ich4) or ATI (ixp460) dry sold damage.
you should change this ic to fix this.
go to the best repairing center near you.
kINDLY CONNECT A USB KEYBOARD AND/OR MOUSE TO TROUBLESHOOT THE NOTE BOOK IF USB KEYBOARD/ MOUSE (EXTERNAL NORMAL USB DESKTOP KEYBOARD MOUSE). THEN WE WILL BE ABLE TO TROUBLE SHOOT
If it won't go past the login screen, you should try restoring it from CD first, and then replacing the hard drive if that doesn't work. I don't have all the details, but from what you describe I don't agree with the motherboard diagnosis.
