Games will load but, dvds and blue rays will not

When i turn the ps3 on no menu comes up it goes straight to the game menu. when i put in a dvd or a blue ray disc the tv screen says cannont support. i cannont get to the ps3 menu to change settings. ive tried switching from the hdmi cable to the basic three pronger that came with it and still nothing. HELP!!!!!!

Blu-rays utilise a blue laser within the drive and DVDs use a red laser.
Sounds like the blu-ray/games reading blue laser has died and it'll need replacing.

hold the power button down when it is red till you hear the quick beeps then select the file restore this is a diagnostics menu..remember you have to hold the power button down till you see a menu that youve probably never seen

The PS3 will not recognize games or movies. You load it and it will not show in up in the menu of options. It powers and shows the normal menu but does not recognize games or dvds regular or blue ray.

PS3 isn't reading games/blu-ray/ or DVD discs, only audio CD's?

this is a symptom of blue ray lens failure (BDL)

if you are still under warranty, I suggest have the unit or BD (drive) replaced.

sounds like the lens servo my be ought , this is the small motor that ajust the lens between playing a game, movie, or blu-ray

PS3 80g only plays DVDs and PS2 games .... help

The reason why DVDS still work and the blu-rays don't is because it's a three part laser. dvd / cd / blu-ray.

The blu-ray portion almost always goes out first.

American DVDs unable to play for my PS3

At this time the region lock on ps3 only includes DVD and ps1-2 titles. Although some games will have the 80028F10 error. Most ps3 and blue ray will play without problems, my only suggestion being that if you are in the US, make sure you get a US ps3.
