Display properties preview operates okay but after I hit 'Apply' and 'Ok' I wait for laptop to time out to when screensaver is suppose to start but it never comes on. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Several things can interfere with the operation of a screen saver. Usually it is a process of elimintaion as to what is preventing it from working.
Start, RUN, MSCONFIG <enter> will open the system configuration utility. Disable the startup group, reboot, see if issue still occurs.
If screen saver then works, you can go back and add items to the startup group until you ID the item causing the issue.
If disabling startup has no effect, go to the services tab of MSCONFIG, check HIDE ALL Microsoft services, then disable the remaining ones and follow the same process

Hello Geekman,
I have the screen saver set to come on after 5 minutes of inactivity. I also have the monitor to shut off after 1 hour and that does not happen either. Disk drives are set to never go off.
Thank you for your help.

Hello Geekman,
In response to your question, this is my personal laptop we use at home.

Is this your private computer or it belongs to your office?
The question may sound funny to you but it has a reason.
(Companies have security policies at times that do not allow you to have personalized setting on the computer. They use mandatory profiles to restrict changes.)
So please answer.
Did you set a time for the screensaver to kick in?
