How to dismantle to replace brush drive belt

Drive belt gone. can't seperate top and bottom casing to replace

  • murallo Apr 02, 2009

i have cracked it. You need to remove the small wheel bogey behind the brushbar (plastic catch stops it falling down). Push in catch, lower bogey to correct angle and one end of axle can come out, then the other. Behind this is the last screw! (seven screws in total) then the silver top cover lifts off for access to brushbar and belt.

Check for cross head screws on top of the hood. Usually located either near the pedal release and then on the other side. Either that or flip the machine over and you should be able to locate screws on the underside that will remove the sole plate. Once that's done dont lose the screws - if either top or bottom is removed you should be able to access the drive belt.

No power in the brush

You may have either excess friction in a bearing or a slipping belt. Unplug the vacuum cleaner, remove the bottom plate, try turning the motor pulley by hand. If it is very hard to turn, remove the belt, then check the brush bearings and the motor bearings to see where the gum-up is. If it turns normally, try turning the motor pulley with one hand while holding the brush with the other to see if there is any slip in the belt or in the brush pulley. If the belt is loose, first check for loose screws or broken motor mounting posts. If those are all good, and the motor is as far back as the screw mounts let it go, the belt is probably stretched and should be replaced.

Brush not turning

Check to make sure belt has not snapped by dismantling the bottom of the head , or looking round the beater bar on either left of right hand far side, or failing that the make sure the beater bar brush is clear of hair or other particles. Hope this helps.

Sebo felix belt is broken, taken screws from bottom of vacum but will not come apart

There are actually two belts on your Sebo, one that drives the brush, and the second that attaches to the pulley on one end, and the motor shaft on the other. I'm assuming that the belt you need to replace is probably the brush belt, or the belt that attaches to the brush gear on side, and the pulley on the other.

Here's what you'll need to do:

Step 1. Remove the vacuum bag housing so that you are only working with the power nozzle or the bottom portion of your Sebo, this will make it much easier to work with. Turn the vacuum upside down, and remove only the 5 screws that I have circled in red:

Step 2. After removing the screws on the bottom of the vacuum cleaner, separate the top housing from the lower agitator housing, sometimes it may take putting a flat head screw driver in between the white and grey colored housing and prying them apart.

Step 3. You now have full access to the belts on your machine. It's most likely the belt that wraps around the brush gear rather then the belt that's attached to the motor that's gone bad. I have never replaced the motor belt in 8 years of servicing Sebo vacuums. The easiest way to replace this belt is to loosen the pulley system that the belt wrap around. Unscrew the two screws that hold this pulley in place, and remove the brush drive belt from the pulley, and now you can unwrap it from the brush gear as well now with the extra slack in it. Now, if you've been using your Sebo in your home rather then using it commercially in a business, Sebo actually offers a lifetime belt warranty on their vacuum cleaners. The belt is supposed to last as long as the vacuum, and Sebo will actually cover this repair, both parts and labor as long as the machine is being used in a residential home environment..

Will not turn bottom blad for hoovering

DC14s have two drive belts that turn the brush bar - one connects the output of the motor to the clutch, the other connects the clutch to the brush bar.
You can check the latter simply by removing the sole plate and looking. Unfortunately the other belt is hidden under a plastic cover, so you cant see if it is okay or not without some dismantling. This cover is not easy to remove and requires a Torx driver to under the securing screws.
If, after removing the cover, the other belt is okay, then you have a faulty clutch. New clutches are available on eBay2_bing.gif reasonably cheaply, but again good tools and DIY skills are required.
Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com which has some excellent info on dismantling and repairing a DC 07 which is very similiar to your DC 14, but unless you have access to such tools, and feel confident to tackle it, it's probably time tocall Dyson or a Vacuum repairer.

Replace dyson 07 animal brush roll assembley

The end caps of the brush assembly which contain the bearings are only a push fit onto the spindle (quite tight). Remove these and the brush bar will pass through the drive belt loop. To achieve this the belt has to be stretched slightly so care has to be taken not to over-stretch what might be a belt getting to the end of its life. When refitting the end caps do not forget to aline them properly so they fit into the sole plate recesses correctly.

I cannot see at the moment how to replace the drive belt on the DC 07 without significant dismantling (that will probably be my next job) I do not see the use of the Dyson tool you offered.

The brushes will not turn when on and cannot move them even manually

Drive belt has most likely broke and jammed inside the power head. Remove the bottom plate on the power head and replace the drive belt.

Power brush not working well

You probably have a worn belt that drives the beater bar... 2 year old belts with reasonable use are more than likely due for a replacement. You should be able to get a replacement drive belt from Sears and change it yourself.. The baseplate of your power brush seperates and should provide access to the beater brush and drive pulley system.. Hope that helps..

Shark Euro Pro upright vacuum V1310RS

Most vacuums you either remove the bottom plate, or the top cover comes off. If no screws on the top cover, then turn vac. over and remove the screws on the bottom. Then you should be able to get to the brush roll and belt.
