Some XBox games have both a 360 and original XBox version, so you can't play them on the 360. Other games simply aren't compatible. Your game may fall into one of those two groups.
It sounds like a DVD drive error. When the center light inside the "ring of light" blinks rapidly it thinks the DVD drive is either open or not connected. You can buy a new DVD drive off Ebay for a decent price or take it to a professional shop. When changing the DVD drive you have to also put the original PCB from the old drive onto the new one or it will not play games. It will play DVD's all day but no games. There is a bit of soldering involved. If your not confident you can make the repair check out this site for help. www.jbgaming.com they do good work and are very reasonable.
Sounds like your console needs cleaning from the inside, to much dust and fluff. You will find good tutorial on you tube on opening the console. This worked for me.

internal error. if the lamp looks ok and it doesn't have many hours on it, it might be the power supply. the capacitors dry out and do not supply sufficient voltage. the in72s do have that problem.
