To basscleff, 1st thing I tried - no dice, but thanks. To guest who wants to know what prompted me to uninstall it in the 1st place. Was having some probs, did a system check to see if I could figure out what it was. Kept showing me error message - device not loading. Thought it was one I had installed. Appreciate yr point re not being a business, and would be quite happy to leave it that way. Unfortunately, my system is not happy about it, and is throwing blank windows at drop of a hat, which is what it does when I've installed something it doesn't like - and apparently when I've UNinstalled something it doesn't like! Showing new error message now - service is reported as having unexpected error code - device failed, service did not stop gracefully etc. Resolution: restart service. This would be nice if it still had a path! So, back to needing Microsoft ISATAP Adapter plug and play ID=ROOT\*ISATAP\0004 reinstalled. Any further suggestions? Appreciate suggestions offerred so far. Cheers Acer Aspire 4710z notebook running vista basic. Correct product not in list.

fixed it! msn says its a fake problem,we'll see.Go to control panel administrator event viewer scroll carefully use your best judgement and change settings that are set on manual that pertain to network connections to auto, take your time.If you make a mistake, you can change it back with no damage.to.your notebook.Go to your start menue,in the start search window, type "run" then type Microst C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\tunnel.sys hit enter I also used acer's (or the manufacturer of your machine)empowerment window to reverify and check for the propper ip adress.Using the path, even when you logon ,logon the manufacturers website(with me it was acer global) use it as a door to all your other sites youve been getting kicked off on.If you still have problems and you used to have norton anti virus, it may still be running in the backround even though you think you removed it.Nasty norton has a removal tool on there site, but they want to charge people, I did it myself on another pc I have. goodluck folks, my machine is staying on line for the second day now , no problems
correction: Microsoft C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\tunnel.sys Also, use the manufacturer of you pc or notebook's website as your main door to all your other connection functions and your machine may start to work much better with the server keeping your ip adress identified properly.let me know how you make out folks, alot of people are having the same problems we did!

I Agree completely that you should remove what you need and reinstall. Before you do go to the acer site in UK or US and download all of the drivers you need for reinstall. If you use a normal Vista disc for the installation insted of a recovery partition or disc you should hopefully avoid all these conflicts. Running Vista i assume its very new, so if a clean copy doesnt work then take it back on a warranty repair because you could have hardware issues. Good Luck

Sone ideas: - is there another machine with similar hardware? maybe export part of the registry from other machine to this one - system restore? - check drivers on acer site, maybe find similar driver, or known issue - check other support forums (google) the error - check microsoft, check intel for known issues

receive error code 31 if the device driver is not updated.
As you have already updated the device try reinstalling the device driver and check if that works, if that does not resolve the issue you may ignore the error message, below link will you go more information related to this issue:
On a Windows Vista-based computer or on a Windows Server 2008-based computer, the Microsoft ISATAP adapter appears with a yellow exclamation mark next to it in Device Manager, and you also receive an error message
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/932520
Steps to uninstall and reinstall the device driver:
Uninstall and reinstall the device from device manger. Steps to uninstall the device:
i. Click Start, type devmgmt.msc and press enter.
ii. Locate Microsoft ISATAP Adapter device
iii. Right click on the device and select uninstall
iv. Restart the computer for the changes to happen
Uninstall and reinstall the adapter from Program and features. Steps to follow
i. Click Start and choose Control Panel
ii. In Control Panel double click on the "Programs and Features" icon.
iii. Here you can find all the programs and items which are installed in Windows Vista.
iv. To remove adapter click once on the program and then click on Uninstall/Change and follow the prompts.
hope this helps
3. Still in Device Manager, click Action and select Add legacy hardware.
4. Click next, and select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced), click next.
5. Select Network Adapters and click next.
6. Select Microsoft in left panel and Microsoft ISATAP Adapter in the right panel.
7. Click next and finish the remaining wizard.
Step2:
The ISATAP is related to Internet Protocol 6.
Please check if IPv6[Internet Protocol version] is enabled on your computer to obtain an IPv6 address.
however this driver only pertains to ipv6, so your internet adapter should still function properly. if it is, you can do this:
Disable but leave ISATAP in the hardware list and go to your manufacturers Website
and check for Post SP1 Driver updates for your computers Chipset.

There seems to be another adapter now in the same place on the tree as the Isatap adapter was. This device is called Microsoft 6to4 Adapter which interestingly enough, is also reporting error 31 which apparently means unable to load. Would this be something that lets you watch the little vid clips in the news or similar? According to Tech Net, vista basic can't do the tv thing, thats for premium and higher.
Still haven't found out what service I'm missing that it mentions in the health report. Basscleff, thanks for the ideas. Some of them I'm working on, and will keep the rest in reserve.
Have another problem now, well, i have several, but one or two at a time is all I can cope with.
Made a small presentation video, just to see what my gadgets can do, and when I tried to play it on Windows Media player, it informs me that I have a problem with my video card.
Card is Generic PnP on mobile Intel(R)945GM Express chipset family. Whatever that means.
Was given error C00D10BD. Tech net informed me that it had nothing to offer, other than that it was possibly caused by error 8876086A. Which, after more searching, MAY have been caused by something else. Have hunted many places, but can't find out where togo or what to do about it. Your comments would be much appreciated. Cheers.
Thanks to both of you for the advice. I will look into how to go about this, and let you know how I get on. may be the simplest solution all round.
Cheers
