Re:
This suggests the the 'copy' element of the software is not VISTA compatible.
In VISTA help in my computer - check out the 'compatibility' options
and select an operating system that the copy function did work under

The Grinding Noise has something to do with the scanner not the Printing Part, I think the scanner could have something stuck on the moving tray....!!!!!!
Sounds like you're having a problem with the automatic document feeder. The scanner is continuing to scan but the paper is not advancing as it should during the first part of the infeed. Check to see if something is inside retarding the path of the scanned document. Or it could be worn rollers in the ADF.
What do you mean by copies? Like printing 1 page in more than 1 copy?
In the Print dialog box (when you click the File => Print command), You can increase the number of copies to be printed in just one printing.
If your printer is multi-function (one printer that can scan, copy, and print), just place the document to be copied (photocopy) in the scanner tray, cover it and then PRESS the OK. In some models, it is MONO or COLOR under START button group.
Because they can't talk directly to each other. Kind of like the scanner is speaking in German and the printer is Spanish....The application used for the scanner is bilingual, therefore the printer can understand what it is supposed to print.
I think you need to reinstall your printer driver again.. first you need to uninstall existing printer driver ..and restart your computer ...and then reinstall you printer driver..
why you need to reinstall?
because the printing application for the printer has been corrupt or missing..only the copy and scan application is running properly..
that's why it only scan and copy..but not print some document..
If the line only appears when the scanner is used & not when printing directly from the computer, you are correct in assuming the problem lies in the scanner assy. There should be mirrors attached to the scanner assy which will gather dust and cause copy/scan problems. Remove the glass & clean the mirrors with a DRY cotton cloth. Do not use any cleaning solution on the mirrors as they are sometimes treated & can be ruined if they come in contact with a cleaning solution. Use the dry cloth to wipe off the lens while you have it apart. Also clean both sides of the copy glass while you have it off. Reinstall glass & test.Cleaning the optics solves the problem most of the time. Good Luck!!
After you scan it, do you immediately print it in an image format or do you use word? If you use word i might have a tip that might help.
Before printing, click File>print>click on "Properties" and check that the grayscale printing box isn't marked, if it is unmark it and it'll print in colour.
Also anything is that, when you're scanning. After previewing your scanned piece, double check the mode, either magazine (which is in colour), Black and white or outline (i think)
