HP TouchSmart tx2 wont charge or start

Most likely the power jack has gone bad. This happens regularly on laptops. Some laptops have a replaceable circuit board with the jack but most are soldered directly to the main board. If separate board, most cost under $50 and jacks themselves are usually under $10. Either way you have to have the skills necessary to take the laptop apart and soldering skills if it does not use a replaceable board.

My screen has gone very dark - what do I need to do to brighten the screen

You don't give any information about your computer, and that makes it hard to give a precise answer. But if you have a laptop, or you're having this trouble with an LCD monitor on a desktop computer, the display backlight may have quit working. Without the backlight you can only very dimly see the display. The usual reason is that the inverter board (in a laptop) or power supply (desktop monitor) isn't working.

Laptop inverter boards are pretty simple to replace, and you can find them for most brands and models now at reasonable cost. Check eBay where there are many sellers. Once you have the replacement, you just need to remove the front bezel of the display, which usually means taking out screws at the corners and releasing snap tabs around the edges. The inverter board mounts below the display panel and there are two cables connected. Unplug the cables, remove the old inverter, put the new one in and reconnect the cables and you're done. The brightness should be back to normal. (It's also possible but less common for the backlight lamp in the LCD panel itself to be bad. While it is possible to replace the lamp it is very difficult to do. It's usually simpler and safer to replace the whole display panel, although they can be expensive.)

In a desktop monitor, bad capacitors in the power supply often cause the backlight to go out. Many sites show what bad capacitors look like and describe how to remove and replace bad ones. It's a more difficult repair than the laptop inverter replacement, involving soldering on the circuit board, but it's still something you might be able to yourself.

Good luck, and thanks for using FIxya!

The screen on the laptop has gone extrmely dim and the fn button with the brightness button will not work.

It sounds like your display backlight has gone out. This is usually because the inverter board in the display, which provides power for the lamp, has gone bad. Replacement inverters are available for most brands of laptops, and they aren't hard to change. Search for your specific brand and model and "replacement inverter" and you should find several sources for the part, and sites with details of how to change it.

Hi,
If after the replacing the AC adapter the problem still persists , the power board on the motherboard has gone bad. The same can be repaired, but would require you to take the system in for repairs. if the system is under warranty then the best thing to do is get the motherboard replaced.

Thanks

The LCD on my laptop has gone out. I am having to use my desktop moniter plugged into my laptop to work. How can I find a replacement top screen for a DELL INSPIRON 1525

1. Test using an external monitor. If it works, then either the screen bulb or the inverter board might be defective.
2. Test the inverter. Easiest way to do it if you have a good screen with a good bulb. Connect the good screen to the inverter board & test it. If it lights up, then the inverter board is good. If it did not, then the inverter board is bad & needs to be replaced.
3. If the inverter board is good, then we are left with the possibility that the screen bulb is bad. To fix this, we will need to replace the LCD screen.

As for the replacement, you can search for it using the laptop model on ebay.com

I have a 50'' plasma that does not turn on.I took the cover off and power supply looks good(capacitors are not damaged). It makes a little noise like power is getting to it but does not do anything.No...

By way of description either the main power board has gone bad or the main logic board has gone bad.

I have seen either happen, but bad power boards gone bad over time are certainly more common than logic boards gone bad.

It is not necessarily a capacitor and it does not have to be necessarily apparent even if it is a capacitor.

Repairing the board could be as costly as getting a new one, in fact in some cases even more expensive.

What would advise a novice to do in the situation is to look up for a replacement board on eBay or through Google. Look for part number "FL6625A020B0773" or "2300KEG003A-F".

I would look to spending up to $100 for it. I would not buy from discount-merchant.com or PartStore unless I have no other choice - they are both expensive stores.

If you like my advice please rate it or write a testimonial.

Inspiron 5160 screen is blank

It seems to me the LCD cable is either not properly unplugged or LCD ha gone bad.
Connect external monitor to the laptop and check if you have the Video on the external monior. If everything looks fine on external monitor then you can get the LCD replaced.
In case system does not power up and there are no indications of power.
Here are the steps:
Connect only the AC Adapter and take the battery out.
Check if you have a green led lit on the AC Adapter.
If AC Adapter does not has a green led please replace it with a known good AC Adapter.
If the AC Adapter has a green led but still no power it can be the system board which has gone bad.

Won't power up

More than likely when the laptop tripped the electric it was due to a short in your system. It sounds to me as if the system board in your laptop got fried. I have also seen where the power connector on the board itself has gone bad. Sometimes you can order a new one off of ebay or somewhere but you have to actually solder it onto the motherboard.
