When I connect the DV outlet of the camcorder to the DV inlet of a DVD recorder the camera is not recognised by the recorder .Cables have been tested + DVD recorder and both are OK .The technician says the mainboard needs to be replaced to fix this problem @ 50% of what the camera cost me to purchase initially = expensive. It is out of warranty . I am worried that it is a simple soldering problem that could be fixed easily and cheaply but the panasonic policy is to just replace the entire motherboard at significant cost to the user . Any thoughts ?
Dude, simply connect usb wire to usb port. down load vedio editor version 8 on ur desk top (that software detects camra through usb 2.0). then go to cap option and cap recording do not use fire wire port (dv port)

Re: panasonic NV GS 400 mainboard problem
What he probably means is that the IC that "Drives" the "Port' has been damaged or destroyed, a very common problem.
Due to the manufacturing method, IE: Surface mount compnentry, there simply aint no "Simple Soldering problem" fix, at all... the actual IC, must be replaced... but this isn't actually possible..(well technicaly it is possible, but real hard to do) so hence the only other "Fix", a board replacement.
Although ya DV outlet is kaput... If there is another output? say an A/V out? could you not use that as a work arround?

-what is the model of your DVD recorder - did you select the DV input? perhaps that model has a DV connection proprietary to it's own camcorders. Panasonic does this on many models of their DVD recorders.
-on the computer, how are you attempting to access the camera once connected?
