Battery 276C My GPS started to act up. It was charging fine and all of a sudden one day it stopped. The message I am getting is that the battery is missing, but it isn't. And I can only get this missage while its pluged into the AC connector. The moment I unplug it, the systme shuts completely off. My question is before I invest in a new battery, would this be a sign that the battery has failed or have I lost connection internally on the device from the AC to the battery? RENSAN

    Same problem. Left the 276C unused for a 2 month period and also get "battery missing"

    When I try to start my 276C on battery, it's totally dead.
    When I connect it to AC power (or 12V adaptor) you can hardly see aa message "battery missing" on the screen. Then after a while it's working, but the moment I unplug it from AC power, the system shuts down.

It is the battery. Buy a new one.

This has happened to my battery twice now, each time after leaving it switched off for a few months. I am not impressed (1st time I sent it back to Garmin, who replaced it for me).
In that they sent me a new battery the first time, I would suggest that this is a continuous problem. I would avoid this consol for this reason.

My yamaha r15 stops because it is getting discharged on running
I have same problem. I was going some where and bike was not running smooth. Sometimes it was giving JERK. After some Kilometers it stopped suddenly after giving Yellow light. Then i tried to start it after 15 minutes it started. Service person changed charger but problem is still there.
Can anyone tell me the reason?

My Garmin 276c indicates "Battery Missing" even with a new Batt.
Check the battery contact points inside the unit. There may be a thin film of crud (oxidation) that prevents contact, especially if the previous battery had any signs of corrosion.

Ahh, the notorious battery problem. I had (2) units that would not charge or turn on (red light just kept flashing). I opened the unit and disconnected the battery on (1) and completely removed the leaking battery on the other since I could not find replacements batteries. The units work fine now when plugged in (AC or DC adapter of course !). Still looking for a replacement battery...

Battery charge cord
Take a look at the plastic fitting where the cable goes into the GPS. Ours broke which caused the same problem. Easier to buy another one used on ebay than try to get it fixed. Magellan started off as a great company with a fantastic product but I think the competition has eclipsed them. Too bad really.

276C Memory Battery
There is a button cell soldered to the main circuit board that powers the real-time clock while the unit is off or the main battery is removed or flat. After a couple of years this button cell dies and has to be replaced. I've had this problem twice in five years, and each time replacing the button cell fixes the problem.

Needs a Garmin workshop, or someone who's good with a fine-point soldering iron.

Gps 276C doesn't charge fully
Garmin has updates for this issue on the website but it doesn't fix all the units. Mine for example still does the whole "charge complete" thing when showing 1/2 a battery. The funny thing is I let it drain and the unit stays on for about 10 hours after it says the battery is dead. Garmin is working on a new fix and they said it should be up in about a week.

Downloading map to 276C
I think your problem, as it was my also, is the memory card. I tried with a friend of mine's data card (memory) and is working fine, I sent my card to garming after I talk to them over the phone for an exchange. I have a 276C with 512Mb data card.
