Hi, thanks so much for taking your time and helping me. I have a question. I went to add and remove programs and I noticed that I have service pack 3, however I STILL can't find internet explorer to remove from the computer.
I did the following to find out which explorer I have on my computer : start - run- winver- and it appears like this : version 5.1 - service pack 3!

Any clues of what I should do? If I remove service pack 3, I still need to remove the explorer, but I can't find it!

    Thanks again,

    Tatiana

Hi, I tried to do what you advised me. I uninstalled service pack 3 and after that I still was not able to find internet explorer. Well, then I installed it back and the problem continues. I have no clue how that problem happened. I also removed the toolbars and you said, but that also did not help!

As I mentioned before, all the time I open internet explorer page, I got this message " internet explorer encountered a problem and needs to close", then I click to see what the problem is and that is what appears:
    Error signature:
    appname: iexplore.exe

    appver: 6.0.2900.5512

    modname: unknown

    modver: 0.0.0.0.

    offset: 10041e39

    Thanks very much,
    I really appreciate it

Do you consider webroot with antispyware a good antivurs?
To tell you the truth I installed it a couple of weeks ago, I had norton 360 before.
It could be coincidence, but after a couple days I installed it, my computer started not working properly!

    Thanks
    Tatiana

Some files are corrupted. Go to the microsoft website and download Internet Explorer. If you want you can upgrade to IE8 now that it is out.

Maybe uninstalling Internet Exporer 7 and then re-installing might clear it up . Here is a website from Microsoft on how to uninstall IE7.

Instead of trying to remove it from add/remove try this instead. IE is not always in the add/remove programs. This was the second way to try on the windows article if you couldn't find it in add/remove.

    Uninstall Internet Explorer 7

    loadTOCNode(2, 'whattotry');

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK. It may take several seconds for your computer to compile a list of programs.
    3. Scroll down through the list and click Windows Internet Explorer 7, and then click Remove.

OK after some more research I finally found out the problem. If you installed Service Pack 3 with XP. Then you can't uninstall IE7 or IE8. You have to uninstall SP3 thru add/remove. Then you can uninstall IE8 thru add/remove. Then you have to reinstall Service Pack 3. Microsoft being jerks again. Here's the website:

Good Luck, pls rate this solution.

From what I understand from the Microsoft instructions its not visible until you uninstall Service Pack 3. That's just the way I enterpreted it..I don't have IE7 or IE8 in my add/remove either, so, I just assumed that they would show up once the Service Pack 3 is uninstalled. If you want to find out what version of Internet Explorer you have, then on the Internet Page, click on Help, then About Internet Explorer. You do currently have service pack 3 though, so the instructions from Microsoft should work. Let me know..Oh and how did you get in this mess to begin with? Your problem did not show the pic, what was the error? Maybe I can fix that instead of going thru all of this..

Also, I found out that iexplore.exe problems can sometimes be caused by too many toolbars being used, especially the Yahoo tool bar. So maybe try and close you tool bars on the Internet Explorer page and see if that corrects your problem. You can remove tool bars by clicking on the "Tools" all the way to the right of the page, then go to Toolbars..worth a try..

Hey haven;t hear from you today..hows the fix going on your PC?

  • Anonymous Apr 03, 2009

Well I'm all out of ideas..the last solution came straight off of the Mircrosoft Help and Support site and I haven't seen anything else on the net. So that is all they are providing. The only other thing I can suggest is to run a really good anti-virus/anti-spyware to make sure its not a virus causing it. If not then time to back up your files and re-install Windows. That will put your settings back to when you got your computer. Sometimes the answer is reload. Good Luck, let me know how it all turns out.

just use Google Chrome or Firefox. They are far better than IE anyway.

Have any toolbars or new sofware been added recently? If so and you are using Win XP you may want to try a system restore to a previous point before the changes were made or uninstall the toolbars completely. Also disabled all Pop-Up blockers to see if that has any effect.clean up ur registry using reginout

Constantly encountering an error and needs to close

I think, its some Add-on which is creating this problem in IE.

Please check the Add-ons in the Tools "Manage Add-Ons" Menu and try Enable / Disable for the Add-on which you think is not required for your IE.

Internet explorer

when it displays a message that "ie has encountered a problem and needs to close", click on link in that message which says click here to get more information and look for modname. then search which application that modname is related to. it could be some add-on on ie. disable all add-ons and toolbars.

run an antivirus and antispyware program. Then if nothing shows up from that, install the newest IE version. Keep in mind IE really sucks in general and I suggest using Opera or Firefox
