Take the battery out of the camera, put it into the supplied LI-40C battery charger or a compatible, and plug the charger into a power outlet. If you need a battery charger, you can order a compatible charger from

You say you bought a new battery pack but have you actually checked it with a meter to make sure it has sufficient power?
I picked up an fe-230 used that had no batteries and bought a set of 2 batteries and a charger off ebay. According to the light on the charger the batteries are charged and ready. Only they aren't according to my meter. The el cheapo fleabay charger is no good.
So assume nothing and check your battery with a meter and go from there.
Unfortunately, all digital cameras with zoom and flash eat up batteries pretty fast. The best thing you can do is buy backup batteries, and have them when you have some serious shooting to do. Also, rechargeable batteries don't last forever, and start losing energy after awhile. You can order batteries at a great price by shopping on ebay. Good luck!
It's possible this is a repair issue with the LCD screen of the camera especially if you are able to review previous images but cannot take any new images. You may want to call Customer Service to discuss repair options. Their telephone number is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3.
