This box is less than 6 yrs old and about a week ago the coils would just freeze up with ice after thawing it it would work fine for a day or 2 and same problem again. I turned the refridge on it's side to get ez access to clean the coils of dust and dirt and now it dosen't cool at all, the fans and compressor are running but still not getting cold not even a little bit. I tested the temp controlls with a meter and it test good.
what might be wrong?
Your refrigerator had a defrost problem but now after you laid it down it sounds like you gave it a oil restriction when you laid it down there is oil in the compreesor it left the compressor and made its way into the evaporator in whice it has clogged the strianer dryer you will now need system work you could try to unplug it for a few days and then replug it in it might start to get cold if it does then you will have to checkk the defrost system it will either be a defrost timer ot heater ot defrost limiter or defrost fan good luck

Re: whirlpool side by side not cooling
Refrigerant is leaked out and it needs refilling of the refrigerant and servicing and first you must find out which part of the unit exactly the refrigerant is leaking and then rectify it and flush out all the moisture and dirt from the system and gas charge the same again with recommended refrigerant and change the drier of the unit to avoid partial ice formation. As you mention that the compressor and relay thermostat are functioning there is no need to touch them.

So I figured out what the real problem is with this model of freezer. There is an updated drain that needs to be installed. The old version gets plugged from dust and no amount of thawing will fix it. if your appliance is less than 2 years old the manufacturer will pay to have your appliance updated with the new part. If your appliance is over two years old they will send you the new part for free.
The defrost drain outlet is stopped up and freezing over. Remove the bottom basket. Turn the freezer off. Look in the center of the freezer just below the cooling coils in the bottom of the freezer. You will see a water drain trough. It will be full of ice. Use a hair dryer to thaw the ice and remove it. The drain will become exposed. It must be thawed also,so that you can pour water through it and the water goes all the way to the drain pan underneath.
Your clicking noise is a defective start relay on the compressor. It must be replaced. You can get the part and do it yourself. Just pay attention to the wires. Replace them on the new relay as they come off the old.
The relay is attached to the side of the compressor.
Try using a hair dryer to thaw out the rubber tubing leading to the ice tray. On mine, I opened up the front door to the icemaker and found the rubber tubing leading in. I squeazed it, it felt frozen, so I applied heat. Water began dripping out, the area thawed, and I had ice again within a short period of time.
I would expect the defrost timer to stay in defrost 21 minutes. IT seems your timer is normal.
If turning the ref section temp colder made compressor come on, it could be that the thermostat is worn a little and just needs to stay on a little cooler setting. Check the freezer temp dial and It should be at just slightly more than 1/2 of available setting. If there is A B C you would want to be a little cooler than B about B and 1/4.
I hope this helps K S
