HDMI no longer working as pass through for Comcast and Tivo

Twice now my nearly new Marantz 1604 receiver has ceased to send an HDMI signal from my Comcast cable and Tivo to my Samsung TV. I was told to update the firmware by the store I purchased it from. This seemed to work the first time (about 2 weeks ago) but today I again successfully updated the firmware without getting my picture back. The setup works fine when I connect the Tivo directly to the TV, so it isn't the cable or Tivo.

Sounds like your digital board is going bad. Is the unit still under warranty?

SOURCE: Analog RCA input to HDMI output?

You have said the correct thing HDMI is digital therefore Analog will not pass.
You might have RCA audio outputs on your cable box so either send them into the TV from cable or into the AMP then use AMP volume to listen to TV audio (select unused input and remember it is for TV) the key is to remember that cable box will drive the initial vol so raise or lower cable vol then use AMP vol to obtain desired volume.

SOURCE: new home theater setup- no signal at tv using onkyo tx=sr605

This might somewhat help. Today I went back .. I went HDMI out of the Cable box and DVD player into 2 of the TVs HDMI ins. The digital audio out from each, straight to the receiver and things are working ok. All speakers are working OK. Sound isnt as loud or crisp but unfortunately I found no other solution.

SOURCE: Picture sound blackout (blink) when cable box/receiver HDMI used

Onkyo service told me, the second timethat I called them, that there is a known HDMI handshake issue with Motorola and Atlanta Scientific cable boxes. The only solution, and it was a solution, is to connect the box through the HDMI 1 port ONLY. All the other (2,3,4) result in blinking/dropping of signal. I did this, changed the cable/satelilte setting to HDMI 1 and all is well.

NO SIGNAL OUT FROM

If that's happening on HDMI, check the component video output (red, green, blue plugs), and if that's not working, check the composite (yellow plug) output, and of course make sure the TiVo and video display device are in agreement on the resolution setting.

The TiVo Community Forum, a group of TiVo users (and not an official TiVo, Inc. site) is a good place to explore this issue in greater depth.

My Tv isn't making any sound whatsoever. The tivo and the COmcast arnt working, but the BluRay is.

Are you using the HDMI for the Tivo and the Comcast box? If you do, then you need to verify that the HDMI sound set up at the boxes and at the TV are set to send and use the audio through the HDMI ports, not through the analog ports since HDMI allows you to use either analog audio or Digital audio through HDMI cable, you have to choose.
Please read the Tivo, Comcast box, TV setup for details.

New tv, new marantz sr5004, hdmi cable- no sound out of speakers

To really help you would require a bit more detail. HDMI is the video part of the signal - the audio part may require additional cables. Also, source material may play a role. I'd start by seeing if you have some audio outputs from whatever your source is and connecting those to the Marantz. Beyond that, I'd need more info to be sure I was giving decent advice.

I have a Marantz SR5004 AV Surround Receiver. There is an HDMI cable from the cable box to the Marantz and another from the Marantz to a Samsung HDTV. Everything is fine when the cable box is set to an HD...

Hello First off i would determine if the same thing happens when the cable box is connected directly to the TV with the hdmi cable.

If the picture goes out get a new box from your cable company.

If it works fine then its time to call Marantz

My Denon avr 4310 does a similar thing and after a lot of research it seems that the problem is with how digital signals are sent through the HDMI cable and how the control board of your receiver processes those signals.

Here what I mean

HDMI is meant to simplify connections by transmitting video, audio and CONTROL signals through 1 cable.

The problem becomes when you introduce a "middleman" in this case your receiver the control signal doesn't always get interpreted correctly.

My TV has the capability to "turn off" the "control" signal coming through the cable if yours does try that first (i have a sharp 52" led) this solved some of the issues.

My receiver has the capability to accept different inputs and merge them so here is how I get around the problem.

1. I use HDMI for video signal but also use the optical for audio this allows me to send the "complete" hdmi signal through the receiver and to the TV this complicates things but also allows you to get audio through your tv speakers so if you want to watch something late at night you aren't waking people up when the receiver gets loud. This stopped things like the video flickering or turning off.

You will have to play with your menu's to see if you can do this on your unit.

How to fix this easily? Dump HDMI and use component (red, blue green RCA's) for video yes its still HD and yes you will have to run audio separately. but it eliminates all the digital processing issues that receiver manufacturers haven't worked out.

I was pretty upset when I spent $1500 for my Denon receiver and Denon then told me that HDMI doesn't always make anything better.

Hope that helps

I have the following hardware: Marantz SR-4003 Receiver, Samsung LN52A650 HD TV, Samsung BDP-1500 Blu-Ray player, Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD cable box, two Paradigm Millenia 20 LCR Bookshelf...

Remove the HDMI cable (out) to the speakers from the receiver.
Connect regular speaker wire from the receiver to the speakers.
Of course, remove the (now extra) HDMI cable from the tv.
That will remove the loop.

My tivo HD is not broadcasting or recording in HD

As far as I know, you need the cable cards to get HD through the Tivo, because they're what does the HD decoding and output.

Picture problem

I have the EXACT same problem with my Sony SDM-P234 23" HD/computer monitor. I know it works (and it works great) with my DVico PCI card with my computer. It outputs in 480i, 480 p, 720p and 1080i with clarity on a simple indoor RCA HDTV antenna. I get the same quality (1080i) picture for the same three seconds as does lewy. I can also add that the digital coaxial output delivers 5.1 audio to my amp and it stays on even after the picture cuts out. Please help.....Comcast sendsa 'technician' out to service it and...well....did I say he's a 'technician'? He changed the box twice and says it must be my equipment. I guess its an act of God that it works with anything else.... I mean....its been checked out by a Comcast 'technician' after all.
