This is what happened...
Last night I turned the laptop on, it started up and even showed the desktop! All of a sudden, my screen turned blue with allot of writing... then it shut off. And now i don't see the desktop - Weird!
Sometimes it reads error - 8611
Blue error screen comes up and reads...
"A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER."
Help! Single mom here trying to get this laptop ready for when my 9 year old goes back to school in September.
I appreciate all the help!
Try starting it in safe mode. (Hold F8 after power on). If you get your icon screen go to start, run and type in msconfig. Click startup and disable all the items. Hit OK and try a normal restart. This error can be caused by a bad program starting up.

I have the same problem with my GE Profile gas range. Every time I try to lock the touch panel (pressing and holding RANGE LOCKOUT), this message shows up. Every time this happens, the message goes away in a few seconds, but the touch panel never really locks. I didn't realize this wasn't the proper behavior until last night.
Last night, I did the same, but this time the "err turn burner off" message would not go away and there was an audible alarm beeping at once per couple seconds. I cycled the power by turning off the circuit breaker and back on, but every time the same message and alarm comes back.
When the err message is on, no gas is fed to the burners -- when I turn the dials, no gas come out from any of the burners. I guess this message is to alert the user that one or more of the burner dials are still in the open position and is telling the user to turn them off to the closed position.
Even though all four burner dials are in the fully off position, one of them was apparently not recognized by the sensor as being in the fully closed position. By turning this dial slightly in the clockwise direction just a little past the off position (even though it already appears to be in the fully off position) allows the sensor to recognize that it is now off. The error message and the alarm goes off and the panel then showed LOC, indicating that it has entered lockout mode. After that, I can unlock the panel by pressing the RANGE LOCKOUT button again.
So for me, the problem seems to be that the sensor for one of the dials was not registering that it was closed, and turning it a slight bit past off did the trick. The other three burners have no issue.
It does sound like a problem with your screen. If you want to get it fixed, a good company called revivemylaptop have an offer on at the moment. (www.revivemylaptop.com)
Try in computer management righ clicking and mark as active if it wants you to format well no to that. I cant understand how this would happen either but its your best bet. If that doesnt work get the hard drive out and plug it into a desktop PC as a second drive, it may just appear if not youre looking at data recovery software. Good luck from Scott

Open the inbox and click View All Messages, click unread messages, if
you have any on the last page as late arrivals or in folders they will
show. This has been happening to all of us while yahoo has been
upgrading the classic mail. Yahoo says this is a glitch and will clear
on it's own. Did for all of us. Refreshing the page, restarting the
comp and clicking on the number don't work. Only Yahoo and time. When
it happened to me, my mail alerts also quit working so I had to
continually look to see if I had new mail. It was maddening, then all
of a sudden one day it cleared and my alerts were restored all on it's
own.
There seems to be some corruption on the hard drive. You need to boot up the laptop from the Windows installation cd. Once "Setup" has started, you need to look for the option "Recovery Console". Once loaded you may get asked which installation you want to log onto. Type in 1 and press Enter. Then type the following: CHKDSK /P and press Enter. This will run a checkdisk and more than likely report that it has fixed some errors on the drive. Now type EXIT and press enter. The system should now reboot, remember to remove the Windows installation cd. If this fails, you may have to take the laptop to an authorised dealer.
Thanks! I will try that now.
You are the best! Laptop 1 has been fixed... yipee!
*hugs*
