I have a 27 inch ilo television and have only had it a about two years. About six months ago, the screen, having been on for a short while, would go black except for a bright horizontal line running through the middle of the picture. I can still hear the sound, but the picture is gone (save for the line). At first, it would clear up within a couple of minutes, but lately, it has continued doing this for an extended period of time.
Have the same problem on a TEAC TV... It's a really old unit... My brother checked the board and found some fairly obvious cracks and bad joins in solder joints and fixed them up... TV was working fine after he put it back together for about 10 mins, he left, then 5 mins later, it did it again (black screen with 3pixel wide horizontal line)... Could it be a faulty component or did we just miss some bad solder joints...?
This is usually a bad elect capasitor or a bad solder connection on the vertical IC, The capasitors will be close to the vert chip..Sometimes you can clear problem with a light tap on the TV, if so then suspect bad solder.

First of all you dont need to send the TV, the manufacturer have to pay to send a tech over your place and fix it at your entire satisfaction or replace it.
The number is 1-800-428-1105
You will need your receipt at hand when making the call.
That sounds like simple ring-cracks in the vertical circuit, most likely the vertical Ic itself... On the printed circuit side of the Tv look at the vertical Ic and examine it carefully under some magnification where each pin of the Ic solders to the board. See if you can find any cracks in those solder connections.

It sounds like a vertical deflection problem. You mentioned you had a white HORIZONTAL LINE in the middle of the screen. If this line runs from left to right across the screen it's in Verticla deflection. If it runs from top to bottom, it's in Horizontal deflection. I am assuming the problem is a Vertical deflaecion problem. The repairs necessary are most likley to replace the vertical capacitors or the verticla deflection chip.

A set that has only a 1/2 inch bright line through the middle of the picture, from left to right, has a vertical output IC that is not working correctly. If the 1/2 inch line is in the middle but going up and down, then the horizontal yoke circuit has stopped working. These are problems which should be looked at by a qualified tech, but if the set was purchased 6 months ago then it should still be under the manufacturer's warranty.
