Sounds like panel fault. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" will make surf easy Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ Screen-shots to defective LCD panel are given. You can compare it to that of your TVs'.
That sounds like a text box. Press the cc button
and keep pressing it. You will see different closed captions options on
your screen each time you press the button. Finally when it says cc off
stop pressing the button and you should no longer get the black box. If
you have a cable box connected you may also have to disable the
captioning on it.
You could have a couple of different things causing your troubles. 1.) it could be a bad panel itself and that would need to be replaced $$$$ 2.) it could have a bad connection on the address assembly or the address board is bad. Can be repaired.$$ 3.) could be a digital Video board that feeds the adddress board gone bad. $$
I have a Sharp Tv that had the same problem with a large brownish or black square right in the middle of the screen. It only left about an inch around the edges that you
could see the picture moving in behind the big black block or square.I have DISH sat-elite and the book recomending that I check and see if the "caption settings" were on
or off. They were on. I turned the caption settings off and the large square diappeared.
