PS3 (80GB) Obtain IP Address : Failed, Help?

Hi, I am using a 80GB PS3 I got for my b-day I am using a modem and a router using wired connection my laptop works fine on internet so does other computer downstairs, but I put my wire in my PS3 do the test and it says "Obtain IP Address: Failed A connection Error has occured", Help?

    the lights are all green except on the back of ps3 I put wire in and the little LED green light isnt lit up,what you suggest I do

    Thanks, the lights are all on on router but the internet cable bit has a green light and i put wire in and it dont come up, any ideas?

    when i put the wire in it seems like its loose somehow,like the port is too big but i dont know why because it works fine on my laptopĀ

    okay i figured what it was, my ps3 was faulty, i went to game today and returned it for a new one now it works fine, thanks for your help anyhow guys :D

Try swapping the ends of the ethernet cable between your PS3 and the router. Otherwise, try a different ethernet cable. Also check that there are lights on by your ethernet port on the PS3 and the router.

    Sounds like a bad ethernet cable. I would pick up a new one and see if that helps.
