Question about Remington Garden

1 Answer

Homelite com hi, I'm Stefano, from Italy. I have an old Remington SL4 Automatic Oiler (the one with no oil pump, but a valve that use engine pressure to eject oil on the chain), and I need to buy some items. I have a Part Manual for this model, but I need to have the Part Manual for the comparised Homelite model (may be Homelite XL12? may be SuperXL? may be XLAO?), to extend my chanse to find parts. Can you help me?

Go to the Homelite web site, which will get you to HCPI Electronics Parts catalog. You will need the model number. The parts are illustrated as a break-away drawing for various portions of the saw. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: auto chain oiler doesn't work homelite temberman 45

Oil System Plugged:

  1. Remove the clutch cover, bar, and chain, clean the bar groove, any holes and passages on the rear of the bar (both sides, consider rotating the bar), if equipped with a sprocket nose ensure it rotates easily at least one complete revolution. Clean the saw oiler hole and channel. Insert a blunted, hooked piece of wire through the oil filler hole and pull the hose in the oil tank out. Pay attention to the screen or filter on the free end (clean or replace, difficult to determine serviceability). Start the saw and see if it oils when revved up (oozes down side of saw). If yes reassemble your saw. If no, continue with 2.
  2. Work your way through the linkage (use IPL to identify components and locations) cleaning and replacing any defective parts as you go. Carefully check the hoses for cracks especially at bends and connections. If equipped with an oil pump it is usually behind the clutch (clutch is a left handed thread). Please make extensive notes & some digital pictures will help during reassembly.
If it does not oil on completion of 1 it is most likely a bad oiler or worm gear (see IPL).

Timberman 45 does not cross to an IPL I can find. If you can find an IPL it really simplifies disassembly/reassembly, provides component locations and component part numbers. Without the correct IPL I would not undertake a repair.
Homelite/ (authorized parts supplier) - Agree; Choose “Product Line”; “Select OEM” & “Select Catalog” both to “Homelite Consumer Products”. A drop down list appears; self explanatory from here.
The numbers Homelite & Ryobi use do not match the numbers everyone posts. A careful inspection of your saw should find something that matches.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. Thank you for using FixYa and Good Luck. HTH

I have a small homelite chainsaw.super EZ on the starter rewind it says automatic, but it has a manual chain oiler, it also has a knob that is labeled trigger latch, it appears also to be a compression...

oil out of the exhaust means that the oil /fuel mixture is incorrect
change the mix to 50:1 ( for the correct mixture there should be a faint wisp of smoke at rpms)
the chain is oiled automatically when the chain is running and the oil will leak out if left with a full oil tank and unused
the idling problem most likely will be from the incorrect oil/fuel ratio or incorrect oil in use --it is not engine oil but 2 stroke oil
do not use e mix fuels in small engines

Old homelite XL chainsaw pumping bar oil into engine while runnin

Check that the oiler hole and the hole in the bar that it pumps into aren't clogged. The sawdust running under the chain and be deposited in the oiler hole in the bar until it plugs it solid. That will keep the oil from havintg a place to go and build up pressure.

Remington mighty mite chain saw

hi Wayne

Oiling has nothing to do with compression. It has conection only with engine rotation(rpm).More rpm results more oil and viceverse.Check the oil filter, the oil line, the holes from the bar,the oiler, the wormgear and the oil hose.

wish you all the best savumihai71
