Panasonic kx-t7431 hangs up on existing when second line rings

One of our panasonic kx-t7431 phones hangs up on its existing call if a second line rings. this is very frustrating and we cannot find which system feature was accidentally enabled and is causing this.

also of note, this same phone doesn't ring properly as it only makes a quick quiet beep instead of ringing.

SOURCE: Intermittent Ring

Sounds like you are having a problem with the generated ring signal from the cable phone service. An old fashioned Ma-Bell ring signal is a pure 90v AC 30hz pulse. Your cable box needs to generate a simulated ring signal from a DC power supply. I have seen many examples of this fake ring signal not cooperating with specific phones. It's a long shot but your phones MAY have a setting for the phone line(s) (A/B) (Analog/Digital) etc... of you can find a setting dealing with the "CO line", "phone line" etc.. try changing it. I am surprised another phone in the loop will help the ring signal at all. I would think it could only weaken it. Try plugging your phone in question directly into the cable line instead of having the whole house connected. The ring signal may be trying to power too many devices or weakened by something connected to the network. Other than that, you are dealing with the ring signal generated by the equipment and I'm sure it's not adjustable.

SOURCE: changing the number of rings to answer on our Model 28112 GE Cordless phone

the voicemail ring count has to be setup on your phone line thru your voicemail menu, and has nothing to do with the answering machine. if you don't want the answering machine to pickup, just shut it off. follow the prompt's for your voicemail settings, there you'll be able to set the amount of rings you want.
hope this helps.

SOLUTION: My handsets stopped ringing after power was stopped to the main base, too. I put one on the main base and that one started working but the others still didn't work. So I put the other phones on the main base while I called from my cell and let it ring. The other phones started to ring and work again.

I currently use a Panasonic KX-T7431 at work and I wnat to either know does it have an answer machine function within the phone or can I buy one to add to it , we cusstenly do not have any faciity for...

Generally, a 7431 phone plugs into a Panasonic KX-TD phone system cabinet. The 1232 starts as an 8 line 16 phone cabinet, the 816 a 4x8, and the 308 a 3x8. To those systems, you can add a TVx Panasonic brand voice mail system, or even a plain old ansering machine. Both would need to be probrammed by someone familiar with ringing and intercept groups in system programming.

A quick call to your Panasonic installer or dealer would be the best, as it's beyond the scope of this forum to provide instructions.

We have a panasonic kx-t7431 phone system in our office and want to add 2 more handsets to it. How do we do it

Hello,

Each phone needs it's own set of wires to the main control unit. You cannot use splitters or connect a new jack up to another jack like home phones can. Do not connect your phone directly to the phone company's phone line. It will not work and a ring signal will break your phone.

The phone you have (kx-t7431) can work on one of several different Panasonic phone systems so your first step is finding out which model control unit you have.

Some of the smaller systems you can plug phones directly into them but the larger systems need a phone jack terminated at a punch down block.

Once connected your phone should work with the default settings. If you need it to ring at special times or with special phone lines then you'll have to do some system programming.

If you want to tackle this yourself you will probably need to obtain an "installation & programming" manual for your specific system.
