My DVD Drive Showing Every cd/dvd as empty as it is not empty...

My OS is Vista Home Premium. DVD Drive: Pioneer DVR-K17 ATA
When i insert already written Cd or DVD it shows its fully empty (ex: if cd is 500 mb full and 202 mb free, then its showing 702mb free of 702 mb).
My main problem is, i want to re-install my OS, but my Drive is not recognizing the bootable cd....

I have the same problem. Also want to format hard and reinstall Windows, but it always shows empty disc.

Also tried to set Boot from CD in Bios but nothing happens.

OS is WinXP SP2, laptop Asus A3000, drive Asus SDRW 0804P-D.

Does anyone knows is it possible to boot windows instalation form external DVD drive, external hard drive or USB stick?

Hello i'm having HP PAVILLION DV6000 and OS is

You first remove that device from device manager.
Then restart the pc.
You may check the BIOS menu for that device for any clarification.
After restart since u have removed it the OS will detect the device and install it automatically.
Hope this helped.

Pioneer dvd-rw dvr-k17 problem

This sounds like you have a Virus or Some other type or Malware that has corrupted your drivers. Please Scan with Avast (http://www.avast.com/), Spybot S&D(http://www.safer-networking.org/), and Adaware (http://lavasoft.com/) all of witch have free versions.

Also it may be that your driver got corupted some othere way if it still does not work try roleing back your driver or updateing it.

Thank you,
Rel

P.s. if that does not work please come back and make sure you give the info that you have

scanned with the above and if you do not reply in this question then make sure you include all

that info with all the info you have already put here. Good Luck!

This worked: thanks to riozebratubo

delete the entires in regedit.exe

"UpperFilters"
"LowerFilters"

They're inside:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]

-uninstall the driver
- restart

Vista is searching for existing drivers -> done
