Hi, Might be a hardware/driver issue. Windows doesn't know that you have an audio device or does not recognize it. Possibly solved by installing the necessary drivers. Post back with PC or motherboard brand/model/version. Kind regards.

I have this message apprear on my laptop when i try and play sound "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device...

try playing the sound file with other media players, if still not playing reinstall ur audio driver either by dowloading the driver from internet or by installing it from ur driver cd.
if ur audio device driver is integrated or plug n play device then,
step 1:open control panel
step 2:open 'sound speech and audio devices'
step 3: in the property menu of audio devices select drivers from the tab
step 4:select uninstall driver.
step 5: restart ur computer and the audio device will be reinstalled.
if it is the problem with ur windows media player, then step 1:select option/preferences from the menu.
step 2:select devices from the tab.
step 3:test all the devices by selecting each one at a time to play ur sound file.

Unable to play back audio, No Sound device is detect on my system

make sure that the sound card is enabled on your BIOS. if it is, then make sure the drivers are properly installed for the sound card. you can get them online or from the motherboard or oem cd that came with the computer. if it still does not work, then the card might be broken.

Sound when starting up and shutting down. but no sound any other time. unable to play a cd. i have windows vista business.

If all of the Windows sounds work and just audio CD's are failing you can try the following:

First goto Device Manager (right click my computer and select manage, then click on devices in the left hand column). Get the properties for the CD drive you are using. Go to the Properties tab and make sure there is a check in "Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device".

If there is a check there then you need to make sure that you have an audio cable going from the CD to the sound card (or system board if you have on board audio).

Good luck.

Hello.

Hello.
There are two kind of sound devices that can be inside a pc:
- Integrated on board ( in your motherboard).
- Sound card ( a card that is plugged in one of the motherboard slots).
If you have any installed, you will need to install a software called " Sound driver " for that specific device, in order to make it work.
you can find the software in one of the CDs you get usually with the computer when you buy it.
If you don't have that CD, to find that driver you need to know the kind, model and manufacturer of that device, if you have the integrated one, you should visit the motherboard manufacturer website.
For the card go to the card manufacturer website or do a google search, there are sites where you can get the drivers(the last applies for the motherboard too.)

Hope this help you.

Sound Drivers

you have to download the sound drivers and install the software..can't give you the exact driver as haven't specified much about your PC.
still try to download one of the common driver like realtek- Ac97... from the following URL ..
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

or try to download other audio drivers and install it...your problem would be fixed.

hope to get rated as fixed...
