Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC21 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
Both LCD/Viewfinder is working great on the "Sony Handycam DCR-HC21" but this message comes on in the middle of the screen with the message "Cover Is Not Open"; whenever it's on "Standby" or "Rec" and the "Lens Cover" is already open! Sometimes, I tried a little method and close the "Lens Cover" to fool it, it works fine when it close with the message "Cover Is Not Open" and it takes a few seconds before fading out the message, somehow that method didn't quite work out! The message with "Cover Is Not Open" always fades in and out, sometimes stays on 20 or 30 second and fades out..other times if we can't find any solution for the moment, we just continue to "Rec" our families video and try to ignore that message as much as possible for the meantime... We all appreciate yours and others people effort and ideals for trying to help us and others out of these troubleshooting problems and solving techniques, thanks again... I really hope ya'll can find a solution to our problems, thanks again... <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> FixYa, ya'll had solved my sister camera problem: Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W7 Digital Camera had a glitch... Shutter stay open, even though she turns it off and the lens doesn't close, there's was this message saying turn it off and on, it will set it self back; but it doesn't anything of that! I read the result solution to the camera's problem was the shutter was stuck open; but I had tried several my method by tapping the lens on each side of it on my mouse pad, turn it on and off, no result! Then I tried another method by applying a little pressure on the lens by pushing it softly on my computer mouse pad, and turning it on and off; eventually, after a few tries, it loosen the shutters and lens from opening and closing it... Now, it's purring like a cat, it works quite well, now my sister thanks me for a great job I had done; but I told my families about your computer website called "FixYa" - it gives out a whole lot of in/outputs of troubleshooting, repairs, post a problem and they will try there very best to find a solution to solve that mysteries on electronic things we all have problems with, thank you very much for that helpful hints! The lens cover switch of your camera have a poor contact that why that message is appearing...you have no choice but to disassemble the camera for repairing or cleaning that switch....i suggest you have to go the service center now and don't try open your camera if you are not a technician cause you may damage the flexwire of the lcd monitor if you not properly remove the cover...

The message will not appear if you open the lens cover before you turn on the recorder.

I put several tiny layers of tape on the silver contact to close the distance between it and the door. Works fine on my F828

Well, I wasn't about to spend more money to repair the "Cover Is Closed" message that was appearing on my LCD and viewfinder of my Handycam DCR-H42. So I just got out the ol' Dustbuster aerosol, blasted the lens cover switch and the lens' and shutter surrounding area. Worked the switch back and forth rapidly a coupla times and the message disappeared. That may have cleared the oxidation and/or dirt on the switch contacts.

My Sony DSC F828 will say "cover is open" whenever you grip tightly on the right handle. I guess the cover that they where talking about is the cover where you open to get the memory card. how do I fix this?
