Re: Compaq Laptop CD Drive
You will need to get the one that suits this model.
Best thing to do "if you can" is get the model/part number of the faulty CD drive and do a google search for it.
You will find alot of spares on Ebay so you can search there for the part number.
As long as the part number is correct, dont worry if they are advertising it for another laptop. Last thing make sure that you get the colour to match your laptop as they can come in different colours (black, grey, etc)

This model laptop is installed with an IDE 40Gb hard drive. You can use a faster hard drive but the BIOS limits the maximum size hard drive you can install. Check the specification of this laptop for the maximum size hard drive you can install.
If you are willing to buy a new DVD/CD drive, you can find it easily, only thing is you need someone to get it installed in your laptop.
One question is, whats the exact problem you are facing, please let us know the details, its quite possible that it would be resolved without even buying a new one. 1. Laptop model/CD Model make ? 2. OS/ 3. How much old it is? 4. Stopped working after something like shock or just stopped ?
You can buy any drive. go for Samsung \ LG. You can get used drives but now a days they dont cost much so its better to go for a new one. Get it from bestbuy or any local tech shop. Make sure while purchasing you mention drive for notebook.
I think buying a USB DVD drive is a very sensible idea as internal drives on laptops can be a pain to remove and fit and they are more prone to failure than their desktop brothers because of their flimsy construction.
I'd suggest you change the drive,, DVD DRIVES FOR LAPTOPS are usually standered parts Take the drive out and buy one and replace it. I dont think you laptop might require a special drive Laptop usually carry standered drives meaning any one should work.
