There could be several things going on:
1)Your music service subscription could have been cancelled

2)The device itself is not faulty. This is Microsoft's fault, not Philips'. Some of the songs may have Digital Rights Management (DRM) encoding that the SA178 will not support. You can right click on the trouble music file, select "Properties," and select the License or Digital Right tab - look for the msg: This file is not copyright protected. Find out if the songs that CAN'T be transferred have this message. If so, then click on acquire digital rights (or some variant of that phrase). If the files tha CAN'T be transferred DO have Digital rights protection, then you must save the files in a different format that is stripped of DRM encryption.

Otherwise:
Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution.

1) Back up all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new

Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard).

Cant get videos onto my player

From what I have gathered in my readings today. You cannot sync video with WMP 10 because the device needs to be in MSC mode, and treated more like a flash drive, the mode that it is in when Windows Media Player recognizes it, uses a different transfer system that is meant to deal with the DMA's. Anyway when you get the software that comes with it, off of the virtual CD drive, and installed. Or you can also download the software from their webpage. The Media manager application, already has a small file tree or folders for the different types of media. Music, Photo,Video. So when you switch modes and it switches folders. The Video folder has no AVI files saved in the codec that it wants to see. If your vids are .avi, I think you would then have to run them through the converter that makes the .avi's compatable the the player in the device. But I think there is an application that once you have converted them it will play them to verify that the device cann see and play them. The biggest problem that I have found so far is that the documentation that comes with the device is Very general at best, and not meant to be and actual guide of how to set up and use this device. My guess is they had someone who was going to write an owners manual, with specific instructions and trouble shooting. Which in many cases is a small book. They however seem to have edited it down to fit on one sheet of paper, to save trees and shipping I guess, So instead of instructions it is more like hints and clues. On the company website the link to the PDA userguide is dead. But there is a FAQ section next to the downloads that addresses and explains alot more of the issues. I goes into detail on how to load and play videos. It refers to the format the AVI's must be in to work, and it is not .avi which is the format many videos are in. I stopped playing with it after I got it loaded with some music so my kid could play with it. But I did notice that when you start the media manager it comes with, and then connect the device, they will sync up for about 15s. until Windows Media Player regognizes it and connects with the device. Then the media Manager closes and locks up until you disconnect the device and close WMP. Then It will let you launch the program again, and it connects and you can see the folders, so you know where the photos and videos go, just for it to close as soon as Windows Media opens again and reconnects. But I'm sure it is something simple like a setting somewhere, not mentioned in the documentation.

Downloads

1. Downloads must be on your computer.
2. Turn on Mp3 player, go to settings, make sure USB mode is set to MSC.
3. Connect MP3 player to the computer.
4. If using Windows operating system, click the Start button, go to 'My Computer'
5. There should be a drive labeled 'Removable Disk', drag your music files to this location.
6. Disconnect MP3 player from the computer
7. Play audio files

*Note - Audio files must be MP3 or Unprotected Windows Media Audio files (that is all this unit will play).

Unable to find usb device in media studio

Does your device show up as a separate device in windows explorer? If so you may drag and drop files directly onto it.

Alternatively you can download alternative free media players like winamp and rhapsody which do the same job as media player.

If your device does not show up in windows explorer then you may have a usb problem on your Samsung media player. This is most likely to be a hardware fault which I don't know a free/cheap solution to.
