Question about Dell 3300MP Multimedia Projector

1 Answer

Unable to play Apple PowerBook Keynote Application slides

My company is a Mac platform office and we train on presentation skills. We brought our Apple 12' PowerBook laptop to a client site that had a ceiling mounted Dell 3300MP projector. The highest resolution available was a 1024 X 640 display and the film clips and slides were not able to be projected on to the screen. Is there a special connector or cable that is needed for use with Mac's or higher level screen resolution needs?

I believe the problem is that your PowerBook does not have the proper drivers for this projector. The maximum resolution on it should be 1600 x 1200, however Dell only certifies this with (and provides drivers for) Windows XP and Vista. I have been unable to find Macintosh drivers for it, and think it unlikely they exist. Without the exact drivers, your computer will find the best match. That usually means you cannot use advanced features, such as higher resolutions, with the projector. Sorry I don't have better news for you. If you perhaps copied your presentation over to a Windows laptop and connected it, it might work. I'm honestly rather disappointed in Dell for not providing Mac drivers for this.

It seems likely that the PMU (Power Management Unit) has failed and needs to be reset. There are comprehensive instructions on how to do this at the apple support site. Apple Support: PMU reset

Curser stuck in upper left hand corner

If you want to use a mouse with your laptop, find the preference that ignores the trackpad when the mouse is present. Go to System Preferences in the Apple menu (upper left corner of screen). Click Keyboard and Mouse" or Trackpad (depending on what you see). Un-check the option that says something like "Ignore the trackpad when the mouse is present."

(I don't see it in anymore 10.6, which won't run on your PowerBook anyway.)

Good luck!

I am trying to transfer a file to an external hard drive from a Mac Powerbook G4. I get an error code 8065 and I am unable to copy the file.

8065 refers to a cross-platform error (like between a p/c system and a mac system).
You could try copying your file to a cd and burn the cd to be compatible with pc or mac and then transfer to the other system.

Sounds like your machine is overheating big time. You didnt say if it boots up or not, but I wouldnt keep trying until someone can look at it. You probably need a new fan, possibly hard drive, hopefully not mother board.

Powerbook won't start up

If you have the original install CD or the OSX CD, boot to CD. To do that you must insert CD, restart PowerBook and hold letter "C" on keyboard while computer is starting, then take the first steps towards installing the OS, when you get to the bar on the top go to Tool>Utilities>Disk Utilities then select the drive a do a disk repair. That may fix the problem and bring your system back to booting normally.
