Press Setup, 5, 3 to resort the system to factory defaults. Also you can do Setup, 7, 1 to change your county/languages.

    Er, Country, not county.

There is a slim chance that you got a machine that was manufactured for an Asian country. If that is the case, the menus might be all different.

Either way, here is the manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/bpu...
and the language selection bit is on page 152.

One other thing, it won't hurt the system to just go digging through the menus, when you get to the language selection menu, the word "English" should be written in, well, English. If you make some goofy changes to the settings, it's easy to reset everything once you get your language straightened out.

I just bought a CMP621f music player and I cannot figure out how to change the language it seems to be stuck in some asian kanji dialect

The setting icon should be in the lower left hand portion of the screen after you power up the device, touch that. In the menu that pops up, touch the 3rd selection from the bottom - that will be the Language setting (you might have to touch/tap twice). Once you are in the language screen, you should be able to select the appropriate language for you. When you select your language, tap it twice, and then the M icon to save the setting. Finally hit the back button (circle arrow).

After your language setting has taken effect, you might have to power off/on the device to see the proper language.

My H-P PSC 1610 All-in-One InkJet printer did this a couple of years ago and I fixed it but can't remember how I did it. The display is displaying unintelligible characters. I've turned it off, waited,...

Hi,

Hopefully you have a setup button, press this and navigate to preferences, select this and select set language & country/region, hit OK, english should pop up, hit OK again, hit OK for yes, USA should pop up, hit OK, hit OK for yes & this should take you back to set language & country/region menu. From there just keep hitting left arrow back to the display screen and you should be done. This is how it is done for mine, hopefully there is something similar to this for yours. Hope this helps.

If this does not help, the only way to setup English language is to do reset on the printer. By doing the reset, the printer will loose any settings you have already set in the printer ( does not affect any PC/software settings )

Steps for Reset
Disconnect the power cord from back of the printer ( while the printer is powered on )
While holding the power button and cancel button front panel, connect the cord back.
The printer will go through alignment process. Complete the alignment.
*Note : Doing this reset, you will loose any fax logs or settings set on printer

The printer should work fine. If the issue does not resolve, it could be hardware issue.
