Intermittent problem of faxes not being rec'd from various areas
Someone will send a fax and the message on my fax (where the sender would usually display is 'out of area'). Then the fax machine says 'receiving' but shortly thereafter hangs up on the sender. It does not get to the point where the page number being rec'd is identified.

This is not a problem with your fax, as it seems to be receiving most calls fine. I suggest printing out a report - Menu/Set, 2, 0, 2 - of caller ID history and having the phone company look into it further. Either there is a problem with your phone line, or someone is prank calling your fax from outside of your caller ID service area. Both are problems for the phone company to fix.

Has the receiver gotten faxes
(from other senders) since your problem started? It sounds like the receiving
fax is not answering the call. Also to determine if it's your problem or
the receiver's problem send a test fax to someone else.
Hi Fax machines are one of the oldest ways to send document information over a telephone line. Before e-mail became the most popular, and more efficient way to send documents, the fax machine was king. With time, fax machines have become sophisticated machines capable of many functions. No longer found only as a stand-alone machine, fax machines are included in copiers and printers. Faxing can even be done through computer software to a receiving fax machine or printer. So with such a complex machine there are several things that could go wrong. This article teaches you some basic troubleshooting steps.
If the faxes you are receiving are too dark or light, or ruined by streaks and splotches, play around with the darkness and density settings on your machine. Send a few test faxes until the quality looks good on your end. If the faxes continue to come out poorly, the problem probably lies on the sender's end. If you are the sender, and your documents are coming out badly on the other end, try cleaning the sensors of your machine with a damp cloth.
