Question about Panasonic PT-51G53 51" Rear Projection Television

Open Question

Panasonic PT-51g53W Dark Picture

I have read that some Panasonic TV's (PT-51G44A) have a dark picture due to a single cap. Does that apply to this set as well? Chassis id AMLEDP811. 3 CRT's. If I use my DVD player and set the DVD player to bright, I get a pretty good picture. Is there such a thing as a video amplifier?
Thanks,
Tom

I think you have a regulation problem and all the voltage supplies are lower than what they should be,the fact that the picture gets distorted is one thing it lead me to believe that is the problem. This can be caused by a loose conection in the power supply ,I would suggest not to use it until it gets repaired or it might become worst and more expensive.Be careful if you remove the back and try to repair it yourself.

Usually, in the Panasonic projection sets that start but then shut right back off, one of the convergence IC's has shorted out and is drawing too much current. When the TV is turned on, the computer senses the extra current and shuts the set back off. The set should be serviced by a qualified tech familiar with Pansaonic projection sets.

Usually, when a Panasonic projection powers up for a few seconds and then shuts down, it is because one of the convergence IC's is shorted and drawing too much current. This is usually very easy to troubleshoot because the shorted IC causes one of the large reisitors near it to glow red hot just before the set shuts down. The set should be serviced by a qualified tech familiar with Panasonic projection sets.

SOURCE: my picture is dark and have changed the brightness

This model is notorious for needing a new lamp about every 2 years. The lamp is accessed through the front by removing the long plastic cover under the screen (it just pulls off). Under that, to the left of center, is a square cover with one grey plastic screw. Loosen the screw and pull the lamp assembly out. It should just slide right out. Turn it around and look at the lamp. If the lamp face or reflector looks "cloudy" or "misty". Replace the lamp with Philips part number TY-LA1000. Just Google the number and you will find them available for around $100

Panasonic Rear Projection TV -dark picture

Javabean,
First off I think you meant Panasonic PT-51G44A which is an AP815 chassis. That unit has an all to common failure of the capacitor at C581 on the D board which is a 33uf/160v cap. Replace it and I think that will solve the problem..

PICTURE DARK

I had the same problem soI decided to go ask at our local tv shop Panasonic warranty place and he was nice enough to tell me the problem . So for everyone reading .. these had a defect with some of the disc capacitors they used on the CRT board it as 2 on there . The second problem is with the ``YC`` chip . panasonic sets have many unusuall malfunctions caused by this chip such as a black & white picture or brightness problems . unfortunatly my set has a bad chip . There we all learned something today . he invites you to contact a Panasonic ``rep`` he will tell you the same thing .
