I recently acquired a Canon MultiPASS F60 from a friend. I installed this machine on my laptop which runs Windows XP. The software seemed to install without any glitches. However, now when I attempt to print I get the standard error message "Unable to Communicate with Device.." I checked the connections and even bought a new printer cable. However, the problem continues. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Try re installing the drivers for this printer check all cable connections once again. did the printer work well at ur frens place? and wat os did he use??
Cannon suggested the attached recommendation. I tried and it worked. My Windows operating system is XP Professional.
Thank you for writing to us. We value you as a Canon customer and
appreciate the opportunity to assist you. We apologize that you are
experiencing problems with your MultiPASS F60 printer.
It appears the issue you describe will require the MultiPASS software to
be uninstalled and reinstalled. There is a particular procedure you need
to follow to be successful. Before we do that, let's put your system
into Selective startup to ensure there are no background applications
running that may corrupt the driver installation.
For Windows 2000 users, please proceed to uninstall the software as
Windows 2000 does not have a System Configuration Utility.
Please follow these steps to enter Selective Startup:
1. Click on Start and then Run. A window titled 'Run' will appear.
2. In the Open box, type 'Msconfig' without quotes and then click OK.
System Configuration Utility window will appear.
3. Click radio button 'Selective Startup' in the General tab and then
uncheck the box next to 'Load startup group items' (in Windows XP, 'Load
startup Items').
4. Click OK (in Windows XP, click Close) to accept the changes and
close the window.
5. When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes (in Windows XP,
click Restart).
After the computer restarts, please follow these steps to uninstall the
MultiPASS Suite:
1. Confirm the MultiPASS printer is powered on. For Windows XP and
2000, make sure you are logged on as the Administrator.
2. Close the MultiPASS Status Monitor and MultiPASS Toolbar.
a. To do this, right-click the Canon MultiPASS Status Monitor,
located on the bottom right of the Windows desktop, and then click on
Close.
b. At the Canon MultiPASS Status Monitor dialog, select Yes.
c. Right-click the MultiPASS Toolbar, also located on the bottom
right of the Windows desktop, and then click on Exit MultiPASS Toolbar.
3. Click Start, Settings and then Control Panel (in Windows XP, click
Start then Control Panel).
4. In control Panel window, double-click Add/Remove Programs (in
Windows XP, Add or Remove Programs).
5. Click on Canon MultiPASS Suite and click Add/Remove button (in
2
Windows XP and 2000, click Change/Remove button).
6. Confirm radio button 'Remove' is selected and then click Next.
7. At the Confirm File Deletion - Do you want to completely remove the
selected application and all of its components? dialog, select OK.
8. At the Question - Do you want to permanently delete the existing
MultiPASS database including scanned files? dialog, select No.
9. At the InstallShield Wizard Complete - Yes, I want to restart my
computer now dialog, select Finish. Your computer will restart.
10. Press the ON/OFF button to turn off the MultiPASS. (Please keep the
printer cable connected to the printer.)
Please follow these steps to reinstall the MultiPASS Suite:
1. Confirm you are logged on as the Administrator.
2. Insert the MultiPASS Suite CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Dependent
on how Windows is configured, the Setup program will automatically
launch.
a. If Setup does not start automatically, from the taskbar, click
Start and then Run.
b. In the Open box of Run window, type X:\csplash.exe (where X: is
your CD drive). Then click OK.
3. Click the Install MultiPASS Suite button.
4. Click Next at the MultiPASS Setup welcome screen and then click
Continue to begin installation. (You must accept the license agreement
to proceed).
5. At the Select Printer dialog, select the MultiPASS for installation
and then click Next.
6. At the Printer Port Detection dialog, power on the MultiPASS
printer.
For Windows 98/Me/2000: Once powered on, the USB driver will
automatically be installed.
For Windows XP: At the Found New Hardware dialog, select radio button
'Install the software automatically' and then select Next.
7. After the system drivers have been installed, select Yes.
8. Click Browse, at the ıChoose Destination Locationı screen, to select

Have the same problem. My F60 had been having a problem connecting so I would use the Status Monitor to reconnect. This had been going on until 12/29/07 when I went to use the printer and my computer gave the error message of failure to communicate with the printer. So, I did the usual reconnect procedure. This time it still would not connect. Kept giving the same failure to communite error message. Bought a new cable thinking that was the problem. Still doesn't work. I have had the printer for approximately two years and this is the first time I have had this type of problem. I tried deleting the driver and reinstalling, deleting the printer and reinstalling (which my new hardware wizard found the printer and said it successfully reinstalled it, however it did not show on the list of available printers.). I have tried everything I know of to locate the problem. My only conclusion is something has gone wrong with the communication circuit within the printer. If anyone can figure this out the solution would be appreciated.
