Question about Gateway DC-T50 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Gateway camera DC-T50

I want to return this camera for repair. It was purchased 2 or 3 years ago.....my first digital camera. From the beginning it has been one problem after another. First of all, the USB cord never did work but I got a card reader and solved that problem. The biggest problems were on the viewfinder LED indicator. The lights would flash orange or red with warnings such as "NO CARD", "PROTECTED CARD", "ERROR, and "DATE AND TIME LOST". Sometimes it won't power on and other times it just turns itself off. When I can get a picture, I am very happy with the quality. I have missed out on many pictures of birthdays and special occasions because of the malfunctions. At first I thought it was operator inexperience, but I think now it must be a bad contact between the media card, battery and camera. Can I send the camera somewhere to get fixed? I am planning to get a new camera because I have given up on this one. However, I spent good money on it and think it is worth fixing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I want to return this camera for repair. I purchased it less than 2 years ago. From the beginning it has been one problem after another. The USB cord did work - a card reader solved that problem. Also, I had problems on the viewfinder LED indicator. The lights would flash orange or red with warnings such as "NO CARD", "PROTECTED CARD", "ERROR, and "DATE AND TIME LOST". Often, it won't power on. Now I can't seem to keep it running with a battery only. I think now it must be a bad contact between the media card, battery and camera. Where can I send the camera to get fixed? I am retired on a fixed budget and can not just toss it out and get a new one. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, you could have a look at , but unless you can get this camera fixed very cheaply or under a very generous 3-year Gateway warranty (which Gateway is not known for), I'd say it's best to cut your losses and go with plan A, getting a replacement. Gateway is about to be sold to Acer, so it's currently at loose ends anyway, and they're notorious for their poor support at the best of times. Digital cameras have come a long way in the past couple of years--I just got a new HP M537 with free 1GB memory card at Staples for $110 that my wife loves. But even if you fixed the Gateway for free you'd have an old unreliable camera waiting for something else to break and guaranteeing lots more missed pictures (BTW, you can get a working DC-T50 on eBay for about 20 bucks). The time to get it fixed was the day after it first malfunctioned. Enjoy your new camera!

Shutter sticks gentle tapping will slowly open and close it sales person in Best Buy camera said it wasn't worth fixing......suggested I buy a new camera.....this one was purchased a year ago....didn't...

There may be the issue with the CCD (image sensor device) of the Camera.

Refer this article to confirm this:

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?mdl=DSCT1&news_id=161

Check whether the LCD screen of the Camera looks similar as given on the page.

If yes, click on the "Yes" button at the end of the page to create an online Repair Request for sending the Camera to the Sony Factory Service Center.

Good Luck!!!!!!!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX9PP Digital Camera Display not working

It seems that the only repair option unless I try to take it apart myself was to send it off to Panasonic for a flat rate of $161.50. So I went to "Plan B" ..... I went on eBay, found the exact same camera last night that had an auction that was ending in a few hours. I bid on it & & won it for $61. So I get memory cards, extra charger, battery & cables & move on. If, down the road, I can find a Panasonic recall similar to Canon's then I'll bring the old one back to life.

If unit was purchased over 1 year ago, the flat rate repair charge is $261.50 (Return Shipping Included). If your camera model begins with DMC ----- If unit was purchased over 1 year ago, the flat rate repair charge is $161.50 (Return Shipping Included). Please include a check or a credit card number to eliminate any delays in processing your repair.

Failures resulting from misuse, moisture damage, impact damage or other physical damage do not qualify for flat rate repair. In these cases, a separate repair estimate will be prepared for your approval.

Return

Dear Resha93,
The 1 year warranty on your camera states the manufacturer will repair or replace the camera if it is not working properly at their discretion. Bestbuy would not return the purchase unless it was purchased in the last 14 days. I provided a link to the manufacturers warranty.
