Question about Panasonic PV-DV953 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Panasonic camcorder I have a PV-DV953D camcorder, serial #: A4HL50064. It has not been used in a year. Now when I turn it on, the screen is either blank or I see a weirdly colored view -- usually all red. Sometimes the camcorder seems normal when I turn it on, but eventually the colors go weird and the machine eventually shuts down. It does this whether on battery or plugged in. I have tried the reset button. I would like a diagnosis and estimate.

Thank you for the diagnosis. I feared something like that. But I don't think I have much leverage to get a discount. Panasonic's warranty on everyting but the CCD is 1 year. On the CCd it is only 6 months!

LCD problem, no picture on screen, displays red lines on top half, black and sometimes blue on lower half. This camcorder I bought on Dec 2003, same time with Minolta Dimage A1. Use only a few times a year. Both likely have the same LCD problem.

I have a Panasonic PV-DV953 , no (D) after the number. When I record, the screen looks like it has red washings, like paint running down a wall.

I have the same problem and was about to send it to the repair facility in IL (I'm in NJ, but the panasonic online search for an authorized repair center shows up as IL). Their flat rate is $261 for an out of warranty camcorder. Should I try to talk to them about the CCD and request labor only?

CCD sensor faulty and has to be replaced. A properly manufactured CCD transduced should last +-15 years so you should isist on having it repaired free of charge by Panasonic agent. ( worst case pay for labor but not the faulty component : 1 hour labour with this problem ).

When camcorder is turned on the screen shows red or yellow screen

I have the same problem of picture distortion when recording on my PV-GS200 camcorder. It's due to a faulty CCD block, which you can read about on various websites. I can play back pre-CCD failure tapes without a problem. Panasonic recalled quite a few GS200 camcorders with specific serial numbers in the US and Canada, and replaced the faulty 3-CCD chip free of charge. I just discovered this tonight and intend to ring Panasonic tomorrow, as the camcorder - bought new - lasted only two years before the CCD fault became apparent. Obviously, the camcorder was not of merchantable quality.
