I connect my zune cable to my zune but there is nothing happening. No charging, no connecting, the computer doesn't even recognize that a device has been plugged in. I have already messed around with the USB ports and made sure they were clean as well as reinstalled them under properties in my computer. Could it just be that the cord is bad? The zune cable works when I plug it into the wall charger just not on the computer. Help please. Thanks

You might need to reinstall the drivers, or update your USB port drivers. A nice zune troubleshooting guide on this is available on fixing zune device errors.
The Zune website has the Zune software which must be downloaded for your computer to communicate with your Zune.
And when you connect your Zune to your computer it should begin charging (as I'm assuming this is a new device).
If you have already installed the software I would assume the low battery was slowing the communication between your Zune and your computer.
If you Zune is fully charged and the software is fully installed try plugging the USB cable into a different port. Sometimes the Zune and the connector USB isn't automatically sensed on certain ports and certain moments.
I would first allow the Zune to completely charge (the battery symbol should be full and green[i believe--it's been a while since I first got mine]).
I would then unplug the device and restart the computer. Once your computer has completely rebooted connect the device to the computer and see if it detects the device. It should work. Also you might try another USB port.
I found this on the Zune technical support (if this does help, be sure to rate my solution please):

It sounds like you guys might be suffering from the Infamous zune new year bug. Let your Zune completely die (leave it for a few days if you have to). After doing this plug it into a computer or wall out let to charge. Leave it to charge for at least an hour. Come back and unpluge the zune and reconnect it to a different usb port if possible. Let it continue to charge.
Letting it die should fix the freeze and swapping ports during the charge will help the computer detect the zune as when their batteries are 100% dead they do not have enough power to say that they are there.
Try this.... Reset Zune: Press and hold the back button while pressing up on the control pad. Connect Zune to a power source: If the Zune device is in sleep mode, this action will wake the Zune device and turn it on. If the battery does not have a charge, you may have to wait several minutes for the Zune device to turn on.
Also, make sure that the hold button on top of your zune is turned to the off position.
Hope this helps

ALL YOUR BASE BELONG TO US - is a video that must have been loaded on the Zune previously.

if all else fails...
If you connected the ZUNE to your computer before installing the software the computer may have installed it as a different device.
Go to Control Panel - then System - Device Manager. Plug in ZUNE player and see if any new devices show as being connected. BE CAREFUL IN DEVICE MANAGER THOUGH, IF YOU UNINSTALL THE WRONG ITEM, IT COULD MESS YOUR COMPUTER UP.
Power sources that are supported
loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation');
To charge the battery in your Zune device, you must connect the Zune device to one of the following supported power sources:
A computer’s USB port that you can connect to by using a Zune Sync Cable.
A Zune AC Adapter that you can connect to by using a Zune Sync Cable.
Note The Zune AC Adapter is sold separately.
A Zune Car Charger or a Zune FM Transmitter/Charger.
Note These items are sold separately.
An Xbox 360 console's USB port that you can connect to by using a Zune Sync Cable.
I figured out the solution by just getting upset. Hold the Back arrow (<-) and Up on the touch pad and it will restart the Zune. This works for the 8gig and 80gig Zune.
To reset the zune you must press and hold the back button and the top part of the zune pad. Other parts of the zune pad will not work.
When plugging the zune into your PC does the PC detect it (device manager -> portable devices). You should hear the ding sound of hardware connecting.
If it is connecting to the PC and is not detected by the software than it is likely a permissions problem. Right click the software icon and choose run as administrator.
If it is not detected by the PC than check your usb cable and make sure your zune is charged and not frozen.
