The adjusting nut needs to be tightened; it works like a carburator jet by tightening to a snall needle. This nut is just below the "window" that adjusts for the amount of air

Flame burning too high when oven is lit on a tappan 110 series gas stove

Generally adjustment would not be required. When first lit the flame would be at maximum power but reduce as the oven heats up and the thermostat takes control.

Your description indicates the thermostat is not taking control - perhaps it wasn't installed correctly or it simply isn't working.

Why does my fan oven smell of fumes when switched on

could be a couple of reasons. if it is a new oven, it will smell for the first few times, they all do. If you have cleaned the oven recently it could be the residue burning off.

When i increase the temperature control the oven soots excessive

Check your oven for flame color; what you are describing could be deadly. It is possible that you have an air vent clogged or blocked causing the flame to burn yellow indicating incomplete combustion and possible source of carbon monoxide. This is very dangerous and I would strongly recommend you purchase a carbon monoxide detector. We have one on the main floor and one in our basement.
A defective gas floor furnace in a home in a neighboring town 2 days ago put three children and two adults to sleep during the day and a 64 year-old man died of the fumes. The others are recovering but are all hospitalized. The family moved to Clay, WV from New Mexico only a week ago.

Flames in oven are WAY too high! Having trouble lowering them.

Hi! melisrus
If you are using LP, even if you change the regulator settings from Natural Gas to LP Gas, the orifices all need to be changed. The Orifices should have come with the new unit, if not contact Hotpoint.

Make sure you order the instruruction manual and this is an Oven with Range Top, you will need orifices for all the burners on the range top.
