Question about Canon PowerShot SD500 / IXUS 700 Digital Camera

Canon Digital Camera Lens Stuck

I dropped my camera while it was on and the lens was out. It now will not retract all the way. Is this a repairable issue and if so, is it a costly repair that would not make it worth it to attempt?? Not an electronic wiz....

Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse In case it will not help, contact the appropriate Canon service center and ask for repair cost. Good luck!

Lens Error - won't retract

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Canon Power Shot A2000 IS lens is stuck in out position. I had to replace batteries. I replaced them and when I turn on, it says "Lens Error, Restart Camera" and it shuts offs automatically.

The lens has probably got something in the retraction mechanism that is stopping it retracting. This can be something as simple as sand or grit or as a result of a drop or knock. In most cases the camera will need to be stripped apart to remove the lens assy before it can be repaired. This is best left to a professional camera repair shop.

Canon PowerShot SX100 IS Lens Stuck

If the lens does not extend/retract when the camera is powered on, then lens assembly is damaged.

Unfortunately, such Canon SX100 (and the SX110 too) has a very fragile lens assembly, and it's damaged very easily. Most of the times the internal gears, the plastic post guides and the motor are damaged at the same time, so the only solution is to replace the whole lens assembly.

The lens replacement requires a qualified camera repair technician, unless you want to try in repair it yourself, which requires tools (scredrivers, soldering iron, desoldering tool, magnifier glass with light, etc).
