I replaced C cartridge only. Now the printer says the cartridge has already been used and to replace it.
Does not allow me to go through maintenance options like nozzle cleaning or alignment. I can on the printer itself.
I had this problem: I took out a cartridg to physically clean it, and when I replaced it it said "the ink level cannot be determined, etc, press OK to continue without this function. Use only genuine Canon cartridges, etc" I kept clicking OK to the dialogue box, and it just reappeared. Then I pressed the OK button ON THE PRINTER which allowed me to continue using the cartridge but without an ink level indication which is fine by me: at least you can drain the cartridge unlike the latest Epsons.

Hi Wendy, According to the user guide for your printer, the only 2 cartridges that you can use is CL51 and CL52. From my references, the PG-40 cart doesn't go to your printer. If you are having trouble with your printer printing black, then you would have to replace the CL-51 Cart. I would make sure that the heads are clean before running out for a new cartridge. You should be able to do a "Printhead Clean" from the settings. Hope this helps. Let us know if we have helped you with your question. Mac =)
You need to power cycle the printer by unplugging the power cable from the back of the printer if it still does not resolve the issue, you can try changing the power cable and if not get it checked could be hardware issue.
Solution 2: The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .
Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.
