Hi There
Our Canon ZR300 has worked very well for a number of years but suddenly has developed wide bars horizontally accross the screen when I try to play back a tape. This is not just on the camera monitor but also on the firewire output to the PC. Is this possibly a defective reading head? Worth fixing?
Thanks,
Andy

Its service manual would include such instructions but I have no access to such. Rather, I can provide links to the user manual. Unfortunately, that user manual does not even mention fuses. You might check with Cannon to see if they will download a service manual to you. Otherwise, here is a manual to a similar Cannon product which does include instructions to fuse removal. Of course, it is unlikely the same fuses are used by both. Perhaps the fuses have ID numbers or that information can be supplied by Cannon support. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1681414/Canon-Mvx200-E.html?page=239
This is usually caused by a defective component in the tape detection circuitry and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.
My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Thank you very much for this solution posting. Really it worked. I was about to buy another one instead of fixing the problem. Because you know how the pain is, to send it factory and getting it repaired.
There is a fix for this which was posted for either the ZR 200 or 400. They call it the "Fonzie" fix. Just hit the camcorder with your fist on the side where the tape goes in (with the door closed). Hit it lightly once, try inserting the tape. Repeat this process with increasing force each time until this works.
Surprisingly, this worked for me. Obviously, there must be something loose for this type of solution to work. I actually had it working once, then it acted up again. I tried the same solution and it's working again. No problems for several days now.
Try to use the manufacturer warranty it usually is for 1 year, call the tech support and ask them where can you send it for this warranty. Pack it well and use some kind of traceable method UPS or FedEx keep copy's and names of the procedure it may take up to a month for you the get it back. Good luck!
hi sir
just two things to do first
1- restore to factory setings from the menu and check if it is solved
2- if not just try to see does the knub is in its reguler state
if yes so you need to replace it
