Make sure your new memory is compatible with your MB. Got to www.crucial.com and they have a download that will tell you exactly what to use. Static electricity kills. Get an anti-static strap. Make sure the new memory is inserted firmly and snaps in place securely.

How do I remove/replace the ram modules on compaq persario V2000?

Just remove the power cord, remove the case, then you will see the memory inside the slots. Release the catches on both ends of the memory then pull it out.

Maybe one of the memory chips is bad or one of the slots is bad.

Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of the memory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x on it with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the next memory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set it aside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If it boots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and put it into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

Cq56 reset bios password

You will have to remove the power cord, remove the batteryand remove the CMOS Battery that is located on the motherboard. On mostcomputers you will have to take the laptop apart to get to the cmosbattery. On some systems it looks like a silver nickel that you will needa small flat head screw driver to pop it out. On other systems it will beinside a vinyl covering and has a cable that plugs into the motherboard. Once you remove the CMOS Battery, let it sit for an hour or two then put itback in and put the laptop back together. Boot the machine and you'llprobably have to go into the Bios or System Setup because the system will haveforgotten the date, time and password. If the password is not reset then you might have to go and remove a Pin from the password jumper on the motherboard. I would consult the user manual and see how to do it.

The board for this appears to have a dead ram slot.If putting ram into second slot the monitor just goes black with line distortions.Remove the Ram and install to first slot everything works ok add a 2nd...

Hi,
Inspect the memory slot carefully. If there are are bent pins in the slot , you can probably align them with a pointed tip. Otherwise the best option would to replace the motherboard. Because after the process RAM is the fastest component in the computer. Out of experience in repairing the motherboards ,i recommend to replace the motherboard.

Thanks Fixya

I want to add more memory and I need to know where the two available slots are and how to add more memorey to my presario v2000

the maximum memory you can add for your notebook is upto 1024MB DDR SDRAM (1 x 1024MB). I will provide you the manual where you find the instructions to remove and replace the memory modules.

here is the manual :

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?product=500508&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us

Open the above weblink and click on Compaq Presario V2000 Notebook PC , HP Pavilion dv1000 Notebook PC , HP Compaq nx4800 Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide.

Then in the pdf opened refer to page 121 ie chapter 5-12

Memory problem

you may have purchased a memory stick that requires more speed than your memory block can give. the speed for this lap top should be around 455-500 MHz on the memory block. if the memory stick requires more than that, its not going to work.

Trying to remove a memory module from Compaq Presario 1200 Notebk

On either side of the unit there may be levers you can pull up, or one center lever, otherwise you can generaly prop it up a little bit and it will slide right out (before putting in new memory make sure the mobo can detect it otherwise its a waste of time) make sure to be careful when handling memory, the oil on your fingers can damage the contact and so forth.

Note : a little force is good, if you feel liek you might break it stop! and do NOT use any tools

Memory problem

Hi

Compaq Presario 700z notebook PC supports 128MB, 192MB, 256MB, 384MB PC 133 SyncDRAM (SDRAM). The Max Capacity is 384MB.

On this basis, I agree to upgrade the BIOS to support a 133Mhz (PC 133) memory module (DIMM).

At current DIMM capacity and prices, ensure the total memory capacity does no exceed 384MB. On the same note, a 512MB DIMM or two 256MB DIMMs are not supported. The best combination to achieve 384MB will be one 128MB and one 256MB DIMMs.
