My x-box360 makes a whirring noise when tray shuts and then immediately again after the first whirring noise(kind of a subtle grinding noise but not really), and it wont read the disk. So I'll sit here opening and shutting the tray door until it finally reads the disk. Strangely, it's a progressive problem. At first it will take about 10 minuntes before it finally reads the disk. About three days go by then 15 min.. Few days then 45, then an hour, but eventually it will read the disk This is the third x-box this has happened to. It is usually after about eight to twelve months go by. It is well used(about 10 to 12 hours a day).P.S.-Once it does read the disk and plays I never have any problems during gameplay. I am sending it back but was very curious about what the noise is and whats happening inside the x-box when the tray shuts.--Thanks.

sounds like a bearing is on the way out in the gearbox, nothing really to worry about yet, if it is still going into gear, and not making a grinding noise.
mine makes a whirring noise when accelerating through 1-3rd gears.
It's when there is grinding and growling in the gear box that you need to worry.
make sure the axle joint didn't fail then on the pass side of the car behind the axle there is a cover that houses the differential open that and check the gears in there

AF lenses normally have a subtle grinding noise when used. Make sure your AF switch is turned on. If this still does not work, you may wanna consider bringing it in for repair
