We bought a cingular razor v3 from ebay (i know, i know) and it worked great. After about a year, it's shutting down when it's on it's charger. In order to turn it back on, you have to remove the battery and then put it back in. Ideas please???
Change the battery and if that does not work take the phone and have the service center reflash the firmware on the phone this method should correct it.

alot of guys that sell "unlocked " phones sell a regular network-specific phone but they'll include a universal unlock wafer-thin sim that fits in your phone between your sim card and the phone contacts. Look in the box ..if you still got it look for a plastic sd card sized container and see if there's one with you phone... if not you can get one on ebay for about ten bucks.. let me know what happens... I have seen this issue alot. I don't know what carriers that you both have, but one answer that seems to come up alot is that when a certain carrier loses their network (another words if you have no bars on your phone, it shuts itself off. A friend of mine from T-Mobile says this is a problem that they have had for a couple of years. The solution is that Motorola gives you a one year warranty with their phones. Take it to your carriers' retail store and try to get new one. The downside is you might have pay for shipping. Whenever possible, when getting a cellphone, always get the insurance, for what I have seen, it's worth it.
haha the best way to know if both screen and board are still work try turn your phone into bootloader mode by press *#power all together..let me know so i can guide more
Unfortunately sounds like you bought a lemon which probably why it was being sold.
wright it off as a learning experiance because it will cost you more to repair than it is worth
My wife spilled some water on her Pebl and she shut it off for the night. She dried it pretty good but it had a protective case over it and she thought that it didnt get water into the inside of the phone but it did. The next morning the phone wouldnt work. We left the battery out all day and yes, the "wet" dot had turned red. We thought all was lost, but that evening after it had dried we replaced the sim card and battery and turned it on and it worked fine....except it needed to be charged and when she went to plug it in we got the "unable to charge" msg and the phone shut off. Well, since I had bought the phone second off of Ebay I knew there was nothing that Cingular would do, I took the screws out of the back and took the phone apart. There is another one of those dots back there as well....and it wasnt tripped. I did notice a little bit of white stuff around were the battery prongs touch the main circuit board, I gently used the small screw driver I used to take out the screws and cleaned that stuff off. I also gently scraped those prongs and the metal they touch on the circuit board. Thought it was a long shot but I put the phone back together and plugged it in and bygod, its charging. Guess we will see how long this fixes the problem. Hope this helps you out some.

Have a Great Day!!
You simply need a new battery. Razr batteries are notorious for loosing life and the entire problem is the chargers you are using. You MUST have one with an IC chip that tells it when to stop charging otherwise watch how long you are charging it. Also when you have a new battery let it fully charge and fully die twice before you start normal charging this helps a lot.
In order for the phone to work it has to be on the charger
