Stuck on the Windows XP Welcome Screen

I recently started my old laptop up again after nearly a year in storage. The first few times I turned it on, it stayed stuck on the Welcome screen for Windows. After about four or five times restarting it, it got past the welcome screen and everything was perfect. But once again, it's stuck on the Welcome screen. What's going on...? How can I get past it and avoid this in the future?

One of an important file needed to boot up your laptop, or your hardware is loose. Try taking out the ram and putting it back in.

How do I fix a black screen on acer aspire 5100 with windows xp?

when you start it from being turned off do you get anything on the screen at all? IF the answer is no, is there any sound of fans starting or beeps? This will tell you if the issue is most likely the display or the motherboard.

Try doing a soft reset.
Insert a small pin or unfolded paperclip into the reset hole located at the back of the player.
Hold until the player shuts down.
Power on the player again by using the Power on/off key.

Your songs and data will not be lost or corrupted by a soft reset.

If soft reset does not work, then you may have to use the Device Manager to recover your player.

How to do it is described on the manufacturer's web site:

I hope your player will work fine again.
Thanks.

Had new windows xp installed, now cant get my old email addess back.

When you installed Windows XP you wipe out all your old data and start afresh all over again.
You should have exported your email address book and saved it to an external storage device and then installed Windows and your email program. Then import your address book into your email program to restore your address book.

You have corrupt or deleted windows files or possibly a hardware error. The first thing is to try a repair using a Windows XP CD that came with your system.
XP REPAIR INSTALL 1. Boot the computer using the XP CD. You may need to change the boot order in the system BIOS. Check your system documentation for steps to access the BIOS and change the boot order. 2. When you see the "Welcome To Setup" screen, you will see the options below. This portion of the Setup program prepares Microsoft Windows XP to run on your computer: To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER.
  • To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
  • To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.
3. Press Enter to start the Windows Setup: do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R", (you do not want to load Recovery Console). I repeat, do not choose "To repair a Windows XP installation using the Recovery Console, press R". 4. Accept the License Agreement and Windows will search for existing Windows installations. 5. Select the XP installation you want to repair from the list and press R to start the repair. 6. Setup will copy the necessary files to the hard drive and reboot. Do not press any key to boot from CD when the message appears. Setup will continue as if it were doing a clean install, but your applications and settings will remain intact. 7. You will need to apply Windows updates after this procedure.

Installed a rangeplus adapter on dell 1000 inspiron xp sp3 home

See if you can go into safe mode by hitting the F8 key right after the dell splash screen and right before the XP splash screen comes up. If you can get into safe mode try to uninstall the rangeplus adapter and try reinstalling again after rebooting the system normally.

Windows XP won't load past the 'user account welcome screen'.

If you boot into safe mode* and have same problem, you might be missing a file called "userinit.exe."
It's located in the /WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 subdirectory. You can copy it from another xp computer
(suggest matching updated pro vs home files). Use your harddrive as a slave on another computer
if necessary.

*safe mode: Restart your computer and start pressing the F8 key on your keyboard during boot up.

Then you gotta ask: how did that file get deleted? It's a popular file to attack by malware authors and
some anti-virus software will delete it as part of an infection cleansing.
